I have imported data using Get External Data and then tried to edit it via
Get External Data/Edit Query, but I get a message quot;This query cannot be
edited by Microsoft Queryquot;. I can't understand why I get this message or how
to access the query wizard under these circumstances. I even re-created my
query from scratch in case it was due to anything I added to the file, but I
still get the same message in the newly created query. How can I
re-establish the Query Wizard?
Are you able to view the query window at all?
Without more details about your query, it's difficult to say what the exact
issue is. In general, though, the MS Query wizard will not be able to
graphically display certain types of queries (eg Union Queries). In those
cases, you need to click the [SQL] button to make changes to the SQL.Does that help?

The query wizard window does not generate at all, instead I get the message
quoted. At the same time it generates Microsoft Query for me to be able to
edit by this method, but this is a more complex and time consuming way to do
things. The query wizard has generated perfectly well on other queries I've
created.

I have tested a thought I had regarding the difference between the files that
won't generate a query wizard and those that do. I opened a file that does
work and changed the criteria from a single date definition as defined in the
source data (Last 12 months) to using a different date field and defining it
as =gt;01/04/05 amp; =lt;31/12/05. Using this definition the query wizard returned
the required data, but when trying to generate the query wizard again I got
the message again that the query wizard could not be used, followed by a
window to edit the query in Microsoft Query

I have solved the problem by deleting the date parameters the query wizard
didnt' like in MSQuery and returning the data to Excel, I am then able to
return to Excel and generate the Query Wizard and re-set my parameters.

When I use a date criteria is in this form:
gt;=#12/31/2005# And lt;=#4/15/2006#
I still get the warning, but I can edit the query in the query wizard.
(You may need to Viewgt;Criteria)
Does it work that way for you, too?

Yes Ron the format in Microsoft Query is exactly as you have written below,
but I want to be able to use the Query Wizard so that I can easily edit other
types of data for another variation. The other types of data could be
something from a list and to edit these in Microsoft Query means remembering
exactly what is in the list so that I can type it into the query. This is
tedious and my memory isn't that good, so it is preferable for me to have the
query wizard which will give the ability to choose from lists.
