Hi, I am an excel newbie that has inherited a time consuming and
unpleasant task from a colleague and am hoping for some help
Basically we run a series of competitions for junior sword fencers and
we use the ranking to update the seeding for the next competition.
The reference number n the first column is a unique code specific to
the kid, i then have surname, first namd club and finally the number
of points they got for that competition.
What I want to do is set up a formula or macro that will take that
data, compare the first entry in the first column to the data in the
first column of the next sheet. If it finds that data it needs to
insert just the points in the relevant column. If it does not find this
reference then it needs to add a new entry to the table that includes
the code number, name, fencing club and the score.
Is possible with excel?
At the moment, I am manually copying the data into the next table first
and then I am sorting by first column and manually looking to see if the
same code comes up twice. If it does I move the points up from one to
the one above it and delete the row. This is a real PITA! Is it
possible to do this with a macro or something?
Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.
