I added some updates or downlaods to Excel when I was trying to make some
charts, histograms to be exact. Now when I click on Excel, the backgound
opens, but nothing else happens, I cannot use the program. I went to
Add/Remove Programs, but it does not appear that I can change just that. Can
anyone help me? Thanks so much, M
Try the usual fix(es) for this problem.
Toolsgt;Optionsgt;General uncheck quot;Ignore other Applicationsquot;
Exit Excel and try again
If this doesn't work try to re-register Excel
Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar
1) Startgt;Run quot;excel.exe /unregserverquot;(no quotes)gt;OK.
2) Startgt;Run quot;excel.exe /regserverquot;(no quotes)gt;OK.
See the space between exe and /regserver
You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case Startgt;Run quot;C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserverquot;(no quotes)gt;OGord Dibben Excel MVP

Thank you for your help. Part of the difficulty was that none of the options
will such as quot;toolsquot; would work. When I click on the X to close the window,
the document appears for a moment then closes. It is very strange. I
actually went to Add/Remove Programs again and located Excel Add-ins and
removed them. Excel is now opening without trouble. Thanks for the advice
and Merry Christmas. M
