The only inherently annoying thing I have found about Excel is that I can't
find an equivalent to Lotus 123's quot;Paste Visiblequot; command. Does anyone know
if Excel has an equivalent.

To illustrate:

A cell may have a value of quot;73.4563quot; but be formatted to display quot;73quot;, ie
quot;73quot; is all that is visible. I want to be able to copy that cell and, when I
paste it, for the target cell to have a value of quot;73quot;, not the previous value
of quot;73.4563quot;.

As an aside, does 123 still exist?

AJ -

In Excel 2003 (and perhaps in other recent versions of Excel), choose Edit |
Copy.

Select another cell, and choose Edit | Paste Special | Formulas And Number
Formats (or Values And Number Formats).

Hi

Thank you for the suggestion.

I tried that and the pasted cell copies the format (or appearance) of the
copied cell but the underlying cell value remains the same.

I am after a way of copying a cell so that the appearance of a copied cell
(eg. quot;52quot; appears on screen when it has an underlying value of quot;52.343quot;),
becomes the underlying value in the target cell (so when you click on the
target cell, quot;52quot; appears both in the cell and in the formula bar).

Any ideas?

that is a very useful function that I didn't know about, thank you.

Nonetheless, the underlying cell value in the pasted cell remains the same.
Lotus 123's ability to alter the underlying cell value was a highly useful
feature and I haven't found a quick way of doing this in excel.

Do you think we have to say this functionality does not exist in Excel? If
so, does anyone know if there is an official wish list forum for Excel?

Thanks

Alan.

I am wanting to copy the value of a cell as it appears, not its underlying
value.

So, if a cell containing the value 15.65 is formatted to display quot;15quot;, I
want to be able to paste the value quot;15quot;.

Does this explanation help?

Alan.
