I went out today to a fe choice shops and at one of my regular stops they coundn't show me the Diezel amp fast enought...I played through a Herbert and a VH4, and i have to be honest...I was less that in impressed with both of them! I played through a VHT Ultra lead that was right next to the Diezels and the VHT killed them both IMO...
I was just wondering if any of you guys had anything to say about the Diezels...I had never really played through one and after all the hype I expected to be blown away (and after looking at the 4100.00 price I full expected to be amazed) but...I wasn't.
Two things:How loud did you get 'em? With all that power, they probably need to get pretty well cranked to give up the goods.
Tone is subjective. What sounds great to me doesn't do much for a lot of other folks.
I've never tried a VH4 but wasn't so fond of the scooped voicing on the Herbert.

They are killer amps if you're into ultra-heavy mid scooped tone..... I liked the VH4 better than the Herbert.....(lows were much tighter on the VH4...which I like, although not always quot;necessaryquot;) I do have to admit to liking the quot;ultra heavyquot; tones...(tons of lows, reasonably mid scooped) for when it's appropiate to be quot;impactfulquot;.....on certain things, but not 24/7. Diezel's are about as quot;solidly builtquot; as a tank, and Peter Diezel most certainly knows how to build a very high gain amp!..(which is harder than most realize!)
But I would doubt very highly that they would be quot;up your alleyquot;...given your particular tastes.... it's a pretty select group that's after this type of tone...( I like having amps that can do this, just not all the time!..)
..different strokes for different folks.... Jeff Seal
...btw, what's with the Johnny Rivers lyrics in your sig?
I didn't really get to crank it and that might have helped...but I guess your right jeff...the ultra heavy/mid scooped tone is not my bag. As for Johnny Rivers...who the hell is that...the line is the chorus form quot;walkin' The Dogquot; which is the last cut on the self titles album by Aerosmith.

The song was originally written by Rufus Thomas in the early 60's... Johnny Rivers was my personal favorite quot;versionquot; of this tune........( I assumed, obviously incorrectly, that he had actually written the song...my bad!...nothing like showing my quot;backsidequot;...oh well.......)

Not to sound like a snob or abything, but I'm going to anyway...
If you haven't cranked the amp up to at least 5 or so, you haven't really tried it out.
If you do that and still dont like it, I just aint your thing. When you find the right amp... it'll take a few minutes but then you'll KNOW its the one for you. Same with guitars.
There is nothing wrong with VHT. I happen to own a Diezel VH-4 and a VHT 100CL Pitbull. Both amps sound great and I don't think VHT quot;killsquot; Diezel. Both sound pretty good at low volumes but quot;2quot; is pretty damn loud on each one. A Diezel is very, very loud. The thing about a Diezel is the clean channel which is MUCH better than the VHTs IMO. The Diezel also has a ton a features that most amps don't have.
Channel 3 on a VH-4 is what Diezel is all about. It is truly great. The red channel on a VHT is also great. I comes down to preference but both are world class tone monsters. Bang per buck the VHT wins but the Diezel does a lot of cool stuff. The MIDI channel switching and multiple effects loops are great.
A VH4s (Stereo version) with a load on one output lets you crank it way easier (Each output is only 45 watts, still plenty loud though). That's how I tried it. I got it to like 7-8. It's awesome.
