Welll.... I have been using s for quite a while now... can't be doing with all that EMG's tosh...
My set up was a Jackson RR1 with a JB (Soon to be replaced with a Full Shred...) and a Jazz and my RG570 with a Full Shred, Duckbucker and Jazz. BUT Only the other day I went out on a whim and bought a spot production Ibanez RG1550FM-RBT... now I have a Jazz in the neck of all my guitars and there is no question of it's capabilites, I love that pickup... but I was wondering if you people in the know here could suggest another neck Pickup that can do the job a little differently?
I'm looking for a clean, articulate pickup that holds it own at high lead speeds...
My band and I play metal (lingering towards the Death/Technical Death side but if i called us a death metal band I would be a filthy liar... so check us out at MySpace or here at Pure Volume)
Let me just lay down the law about the Full Shred... it's the ****ing balls... I have never heard a pickup like it and for anyone who is reading this forum researching about pickups; if you play a hybrid style of metal... where you need lots of punch and clarity with plently of bite... GET THE FULL SHRED.
safe
Dimarzio Air Norton, that's all you need. Just listen to any dream theatre albums from 95 on and you will hear the lead tone I'm talking about.
Im not such a fan of Petrucci's lead tone... to squashy for me. And Dream Theater on a whole... I think petrucci owns the guitar... but in DT he is overwhelmed with fluff. Jordan Rudess however, ist krieg
Well a lot of that tone is coming via Mesa/Boogie squash. That pickup is really clear and articulate. IMO it's like a fuller version of the jazz.
true, but im not really a dimarzio player... I will however give an Air Norton a go... PG uses them as well
If you're thinking along the lines of Paul you may want to also give the Paf pro a go, it's what he uses most of the time, or at least with racer-x. Great thing about Dimarzios is that they don't break the bank to try out a few different ones
anything more related?

1, great player, but in the wrong band with the wrong tone IMO
If you want something quot;smootherquot; than the Jazz, try the A2P.... Of you want a bit more low end grind, try the ´59. A Seth opr PG would almost certainly also be great, BUt I´ve never owned either
Why not get a Full Shred neck? It sounds like exactly what you're looking for.

yeah I was told this... I will have to try it and see... the full shred is such a ****ing awesome pickup!
And regarding petrucci, I totally agree... he is a ****ing star of a player but DT is not for him... have you heard Suspended Animation?
