Hi all, i'm looking for a versatile bass for home recording. I really don't know squat about basses, so I was hoping on some pointers. I want a bass that can have good thump (think VH's Fair Warning) to some nice snap (e.g. Mike Watt, Steve Harris).

PICS: Played an Ibanez PGM (Prestige Paul Gilbert Model!)
I really heart this guitar! When Paul Gilbert says it's extremely comfortable and easy to play...he means it! It is most definitely a shredder's delight. The neck is thin, but thicker than those ridiculously uber-thin pencil necks you find on some Ibanez guitars. The frets were just right, not too tall, not too short. Bending was a dream, fast runs could be executed with incredible ease, and it really fit well with my fingers, which doesn't often happen when I play 24-fret guitars! I didn't have to stretch my fingers like crazy, it is a real smooth player. All of the pickup positions were incredibly useful, allowing you to go from full-on humbucker doomination to twangy strat-quack, and they were excellent DiMarzio pups, which is probably another reason I liked it Anyways, check this guitar out if you get the chance, and even if you're not a shredder. It is player-friendly and versatile.

ESP Eclipse II-FM
Does anyone know of an online dealer that sells these? They are as same as the Eclipse IIs, except instead of the EMGs they have SD JB/59.

Engl...Powerball vs Savage? and other amps...i can't decide what to do...
Can anyone give me a rundown on the sound differences b/t the Engl Savage and Engl Powerball? i tend to run for the powerball since it's 6l6 powered and all the amps i seem to like are 6l6 amps for some reason...but the Savage sounds sweet also fom what i have heard. i've listened to tons of clips of both and depending on settings they can sound quite similar in clips (to my ears) or fairly different (both sound great)!! is that the case live and in person (that they are fairly similar) or are they drastically different sounds...sometimes you just can't tell from a clip. basically any info about the two and how they relate to eachother in terms of gain, treble, mid. and bass would be great...such as which seems to have a more usable high gain and which has more low end etc etc along those lines. the amp will be used 90% for high gain metal and punk.
