I feel like I am losing my mind ... I ran across a photo of a new PRS(?) w/ a fluted nut ... it looked cool, interesting .and like a pain to make.. but now I cant find a trace of it anywhere.
reminded me of some lute's I've seen.... anyone spot this or know of anyone else using this style of nut?
Thanks ~G
Ovation did it on some models years ago.
BTW-You're right. It is a pain in the a*s to do.

I haven´t seen a fluted nut in years... But I can´t say I´m any hurry to see another one
Pics?
I have no clue what a fluted nut is :E
It's a nut that has been 'scalloped' between the string slots.

thats the perfect definition ^
ovation ehh? hmm .. never spotted one w/ a flutted nut ... but then again I've never paid much attn to Ovation...
I am try'n to see the benifit in using one... sorta seems to me it'd break alot easier ... but there must be an upside .. outside of the pure luxury and artistic aspect.
thanks guys ... if someone runs across that pic I saw please post it ... so I can sleep easy!
Cheers johnjohn.
Is there any benifit to this other than aesthetics?
Not really,I've heard some people say that the string resonantes better, but really it's still sided by bone on bone-so I don't get it.
ok ... I found it again.
the new PRS 513 comes w/ this fluted nut, which thay also call quot;compensatedquot; .. as reviewed in guitarist mag.
if I had to .. I would bet it is molded .. and not made by hand .. but thats just my gut feeling.
Sounds like their take on the Earvana.
My fav was when PRS was using the Graphtech stuff before it really hit the open market and called it quot;Unobtainiumquot;.
