look at the signs.. Guitar solos are coming back, and now Dean has neon colored guitars for sale.. The makers of Aqua net have high expectations!

You can see it in fashions as well, we moved through the 70's just recently and now we're progressing into what naturally comes next. I'm stoked, didn't really get to catch hair metal back then, maybe I'll get some new favorites. Also stoked cause people will get back into appreciating guitar players, I'm at the perfect age to seize it all baby.

Plus those Jason Becker vids in the clip room have me in a shredder mood, no sleep for me tonight.

oh do i have something that will fit this thread theme...i'll make a new post with pics in a second i just found a hidden treasure i forgot i had...right out of the 80s!

The 80's must have been among the best times to be a guitarist ever! A lot of cool gear, and every rock band had to have a monster player. Not like today where if you can play a power chord, you're the man!

I hope the 80's are coming back!

Edit: I dont need the spandex and the hairspray, though!

I don't think modern society will tolerate the 80s again.....

Tell me what is the real big difference as it is

I'm obviously missing something... outside of the quot;olderquot; bands who have been weilding solos for years and years, who are the newer bands who are doing more than simple power chords? Are you telling me I have to start listening to the radio again? Or, God forbid, watch MTV!?!?!

If that's the case, I'm going to have to hit the gym, because in my present state, I would not look too good in tight leather or spandex.

100, and I dont have any hair left either!

The 80's had just great guitar based music. And as many inserted riffs and solos as pleased them.

Well Rush is not exactly typical 80's, but one night I was driving home late from KC with some young guys. And non-guitar players. Working Man (from the 70's) was on the radio and the great guitar stuff about to start. Well, my friend the driver changed the station. He said he didn't understand quot;the need for all those superfluous guitar notesquot;. It was all I could do to simply bite my tongue and let it go. He wanted to hear Weezer.

Check out Silvertide, they're a refreshing new group. To me they kind of sound like you smashed The Black Crowes and AC/DC together.

Todd, you're a better man than I, I would have thrown him out the window!

There was a lot more than hair metal in the 80s

I have heard the 80s influence for a few years now: the hives, interpol, the doves, verbatim.. very other-80s

i notice a lot of guys bashing on simple power chord stuff. don't get me wrong, i'm sick of hearing the same pop-punk emo on the radio, but don't you think there are also masters of simplicity like weezer, queens of the stone age, sam roberts, etc... guys who can take a few chords and write an amazing song with an amazing arrangement. i think there's just as much impressive about being able to write and arrange an amazing simple song as there is to shredding a cheesy guitar solo.

i was driving to work this morning and The Cars Shake It Up was on the radio. I was listening to the guitar part. I thought that If I had come up with that, I wouldn't have been able to make song from it. It sounds too simple. I wouldn't have had the guts to take something that simple and make it into a song.

Your point you make is well made. Sometimes it's not what you say or play, it's how you play it.

But, the thing is, you see it in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, to present.

I've sat down to figure out AC/DC stuff. Figure out the chords, and then say, quot;that's it.quot; quot; That's so simple!quot; Yet alot of AC/DC, Scorpions, and all the rest are fairly simple, straight forward, yet are very well crafted, interesting and sonically pleasing tunes.

i know ive seen this and have been expecting the 80s hopefully my friends we dont run into another 70s i cant explain how much these indie mod bands were driving me to the edge of my sanity with curly long hair (glam rock is diffrent u can tell its guys hair still, this is like beauty salon hair) and dumb names like hot hot heat and the bravery and the mesh between modern times and 70s proves why destroying the space time continuim is bad because i couldnt take all the times coming together (80s 90s exeption)

I had the best time of my life as a teenager, playing gigs on the Sunset Strip, in the late 80's/early 90's. That was the best era for Los Angeles/Hollywood. Thousands of musicians and hot chicks hanging out. Lots of parties, where newly famous rock bands and comedians were living large and doing crazy stuff.

Then, into the 90's, was a time when the rock scene was sliding away, but it didn't matter to me because I was more into the bluesrock/alternative 90's thing. It was still a great time to be playing music, but the whole surrounding vibe was a lot duller.
No longer were women wearing miniskirts......nothing but baggy pants, flannel, and Doc Martens! Yukk. Then came the downtuned Cookie Monster music and rap. IMO, that's when the scene really plummeted. The good clubs couldn't attract any audiences with all that gloom and white noise. In the late 90's, SO many rock clubs turned into dance clubs and Mexican restaurants that the scene just hit rock bottom, at least in Hollywood.

I really hope the pendulum swings back toward music that creates a cooler scene than what's happening now. I think this newest generation is one that doesn't even want to scrape up the $$$$$$$$$$ it cost to go to a show and park your car. I see a lot more people just staying out of clubs and getting their music through the computer/IPODS etc. The world really needs a new good scene that rivals the 80's.

In the 80's you could go out to a club with $20-$30 and cover your date and have an evenings worth of fun. Now look at how much it costs. Entertainment costs has sky rocketed way ahead of inflation. The entertainment market is in need of some serious correction.

Bring back the 80's guitar playing and the 80's cheap fun. I saw Motley Crue and Quiet Riot on the same bill for $15 back in '84. The equivalent show today would be $50 bucks at least.

1 to guitar toad, everything is so damn expensive that I pretty much just play at home. I skip so many concerts because of that.

I hope those times are coming back in a big way!!! Bout F**KING TIME!!!!!

Now, gimmie some damn Aquanet!!!!!LOL!!!
