Just checked out the ishibashi site and saw their revamped line-up. Cool stuff, and now I'm seriously gassing for the natural 54 reissue. Trouble is, for another NZ$350 I could get a US 57 reissue. What to do????

one thing to keep in mind is the shipping cost ... I know when I looked on their site, it looked like shipping for a guitar would be about $125 to the US. Maybe it's less to NZ, but I'd check if you decide to get something from them.

you might ask guitars japan about Ishibashi - he's probably pretty knowledgeable about the Japanese strats in general

I think guitars japan just charges exorbitant amounts for jap guitars. its almost like buying a US made strat / Les paul!!

they're definitely new. a fender storatocastar with race sensor, middobust,v-sheipnecc or the one with '50s picking-up or texas specials picking-up

Whoa . . . those are intrigueing. Especially . . .

The quot;USA Texas pip improvementquot; . . .

and . . . quot;the model of peculiar specquot; . . .

Actually, the prices fom Ishibashi (Fender Japan) have been pretty much the same for the past 3 years or so. But the exchange rate between the US Dollar and the Yen has not been favorable. A natural ash '71 Reissue Strat that I bought from them in 2002 was around $650 including shipping. Now that same guitar (same price for the guitar and shipping in Yen) is almost $800.

Seriously though, what's the exchange rate?

Hey Seraphial,

I use a '94 MIJ 57 ri.

I went through a custom strat with fralins, an MIA 62ri, an MIA SRV and an original '76 before finally getting the 57ri. I've since offloaded all those strats, and the 57ri is now my main gigging guitar (with another mij strat on the workbench). Of course, it now has duncans, graphtech saddles and locking pegs...

Now, in my opinion, the quality of the US vintage ris is generally only higher in some areas: trem block, electronics and thickness of finish. I've come across some fantastic MIA ris, and some that didn't really do much for me.
