hey guys! would a screamin' demon be good for metal? i know that its not really a high-voltage monster (more like a PAF boosted a tad), so can it hold up to C#, C or even B tunings? i heard Goerge Lynch's quot;REvolutionquot; album that's tuned to B, and it sounds killer... but i think he used his signature ESP baritone, which has a JB in the bridge on that album.

another p.o.s. tone clip
First part is scooped mids, and the second is well...unscooped mids. Obviously, i'm not the greatest lead player, but it's mostly just for demonstration.

More Jimmy Page blither / JB question
I've posted before about my desire to rig my Gibson Les Paul (LP) for Jimmy Page (JP) wiring. Currently, I'm thinking of going from a Alnico II Pro b/n set, to a A2P (n) JB (b) match and then going to JP wiring for greater versatility. JP wiring has 21 settings vs the normal 3 for a LP. I'll never figure out how to use that many settings, but I'm on a roll so bear with me.

Bare ground wires?
Does the entire bare ground wire need to be wrapped in Elec tape, or just where they are soldered to the Volume Pot? Dimarzio`s have 2 grounds but ! is completely bare.

I played a 37 year old Gibson tonight...
I was jamming over at a buddy's house tonight, when one of his friends showed up with his 1968 Gibson Les Paul (either Special or Junior, not sure which). Flat top, sunburst, P90s, all original and in excellent shape. Apparently his Dad bought it 15 years ago at a garage sale for $200 or $300.

Basslines STC-2p circuit
I have a Fender Marcus Miller Jazz bass 4 string. I have purchased a Basslines STC-2p circuit and would like to keep all of the original controls (2 volumes, passive/active switch and active treble and active bass) and just add the preamp to the circuit. Any suggestions on how to do this?

What pickup to combat the quot;wet-towlquot; sound in combo
Alright so I have a Flextone II 212. It has the typical combo problem of sometime sounding muffled/dull/lifeless. I get good tones out of it, it just seems very unbright. I remember a long time ago someone describing it as sounding like there was a wet towl over the speakers, and that's exactly right. My latest guitar came with an EMG 81, and as expected, it didn't react well with the solid state, so I'd like to change it. I had a JB previously, and it sounded better than the 81. Brighter, with more presence, but it still had the same problem. I know this amp, will always have this problem to an extentt, but I'm trying to choose the pickup that will minimize it as much as possible. Looking at the tone chart, the Distortion (5/8/9) seems like it might be a good choice.....or do I not want that much mids? What do you guys think would be my best option? I've heard good things about Dimarzio passives also but don't know much about them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Corosion on Nickel Covers?
I just put a set of Duncans in my Ibanez semi-hollow (Lover neck and Custom Custom bridge), and I love the way they sound, but have been a touch disappointed with other things. First, the microphonics on the CC are outta control, even after I had the foam installed underneath. I'm not messing with re-potting it - should be good to go outta the box in my opinion. Going to replace with a '59 - hopefully I'll have better luck. BUT, I've also noticed, after only two gigs, that the nickel covers on both pups have little corrosion-type marks on them! The bridge cover even retained a dark fingerprint smudge that I can't get off. I admit, I sweat like a hog when I play, but I had the stock pups with nickel covers on the guitar for over a year and a half, and they always wiped clean. What gives? Any ideas on this? Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a cleaning solution I can use on them?
