I have my sheet protected with only one column locked. This works fine but I
also want to be able to import data with protection enabled. When protection
is enabled, the import data commands are greyed out. The data that I will be
importing will not attempt to overwrite the column that is locked.
Is it possible to lock part of the sheet and import data?
thanks in advance,
Robert
Maybe you could record a macro that unprotects the sheet, imports the data, and
reprotects the sheet.
Or you could import to a different worksheet and copy|paste to its real home?

View this thread: www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=516612I am applying protection to column K and intend to perform an import that
will bring data into columns A thru H. Other people will be doing the import
from a text file that they are creating (using a macro is not practical) and
I don't want them to mess up my formulas.
Anyway, I select all cells and in format amp; uncheck the locked box. Then I
select column K and in format check the lock box.
It works fine if I am manually entering data: A-H is unlocked and K is
locked.
It seems like enabling protection on a sheet disables the import function
(it is greyed out). My question is: Is there any way around this?
thx
