I created a custom quote worksheet with a lot of lookups, validated tables
and functions. Even though I named the worksheet quot;ORDER FORM - Open and SAVE
AS or I'll cut your fingers offquot;, people still get in and overwrite my
formulas and save instead of save as.

The problem is, sometimes they do need to overwrite, but I need to have the
worksheet stay intact when they exit.

Can you force a worksheet to exit without saving changes, or force a quot;save
asquot;?

I do have a backup copy hidden that I can always go to, but I'd like to
force the stupid people in my office to save as.

Save your file with a write-password, read-only recommended. (In the Save As
dialog, use Tools, General Options). Then your users can accept the
read-only recommendation when they open the file, and they'll get a warning
if they try a simple save.

You should rename your model Worbook as someting.xlt
That will solve your problem

When you save the file, you get a Save As window appear, at the top,
there is an option called tools, select this and select General
Options, here you get a window with 4 options:-

Always create backup - self explanatory
Password to Open - self explantory
Password to modify - enter here and the only way they can overwrite
your existing file is with a password. It will pop up a message on file
open, to ask either the password to be entered, or open it as read-only.
If it is open as read only, when the user saves the file, it will force
you to save with another name and without the read-only attribute
Read-only recommended - This sounds like what you want, however this
pops up a similar message as above, however the user can override,
which they probably will (sods law and all that)

The other easy option, although not foolproof is to go to the
properties of the file in Windows Explorer and mark it as read only,
but as you can see if you can do that, so can your user (ie turn off
the read-only access).

Setting a password is the only reasonable solution, although not
entirely foolproof, there are crackers out there who will remove
readonly passwords!--
