I have a document that has quot;Page 1quot; in the background, kind of like a
watermark. I want to remove it and can't figure out how. Please help.

Your in Page Layout view. Try View/Normal.

Try this:
From the main menu:
Viewgt;Normal
(it's probably set for page break view)
