What Is my Hot Wire?
- Jun 11 Thu 2009 20:52
Uh OH. FREE STUFF.
Alright folks. I got a deal. I have a Tech 21 Double Drive, OR a 59/Custom Hybrid. Your choice, it's FREE for anyone who can resolve this unfortunate issue. I recently got a Vox Cambridge, great amp, did the 56 mod. Thanks again Chris, good business. Well, somehow, I accidently broke a pin off the chip when resecuring the optocoupler. Alright no biggie. I purchased another and installed to the exact instructions. Low and behold, I turn the amp on and something starts to smell. I turn it off. The Power transistor was incredibly hot. I tried again. Same deal. Third time, nothing came on, not even the LED. I mean, you can hear it click on and off, ect, even the first couple of times, but not this time. So I redid the wiring, double checked everything. Turned it on, nothing, but a smell. I went through 3 different chips. With each one the same deal. When I touched the large blue capacitor next to the power transistor, I recieved a small shock. The I touched the 56 chip, again small shock. So, it seems obvious power is running through. The slow blow fuse looks alright. The only thing that looks burnt is Z04, which is a rectifier/diode. It was that way before. I change out the optocoupler again. Still no prevail. All the joints look good. So, what's up. Is it the blue capacitor next the power transistor? The electylic capacitor connected to the 56 Chip? I'm serious about this deal. I will pay for SHIPPING. I can't get it into a tech for a month, so I figured if I put enough motivated minds behind this, I could do it myself, with the obvious assistance of someone who knows what the hell their doing. You can post here or send me an PM. Thanks to all in advanced.

Is there a relation between volume and output
I have a loud (200 watt 2x12quot;) amp as you can see. In my room i can berely play at volume 2 cause is so damn loud.I have a normal strat and im thinking about giving it an upgrade with duncan pickups like hot rails. I know they have more output and I heard people say they are louder. Is there a relation between volume and output or the signal will just be amplified in the amp, so giving me same amount of volume I usually play at? I dont want to use less amp volume you see.....

Dodgy Maiden Cover
Someone did a cool maiden cover a little while ago. I really only like 2 or 3 of their songs amp; number of the beast is one of em'. So here's a dodgy maiden song. It's a first take amp; bit sloppy but it was heaps of fun.

stupid newbie question.
I am not much of a technical genius regarding humbuckers and stuff, because I am new to it. Well, let's get to the point;

like JB but 'less'
hello, i currently have a jb humbucker in the bridge of one of my guitars, and i like the sound of it, and it does rawk (\m/) pretty damn well, but sometimes can sound a bit too much sometimes, and slightly muffled and high gain (compared to the definition of a singlecoil) so i was thinking of replacing it with something new, the question is what...

Could someone double check this schematic ?
I'm still pretty new at this, but i think i'm getting close.
I realize this will have the middle pickup always on, but i can dial it out with its volume. My big concern is the grounding etc.

Crate PowerBlock.. Worth it?
I kind of want to upgrade my set-up, and I noticed this Crate PowerBlock. Interesting little thing, it is. Although the 150 Solid State watts are kind of bleh, the rest of it seems okay. I still have yet to play it, but it isn't a bells-and-whistles kind of thing, just 5 or 6 knobs on the front, a headphone out (BIIIG plus for me), effects loop and speaker out easily located on the back.
