I'm still pretty new at this, but i think i'm getting close.
I realize this will have the middle pickup always on, but i can dial it out with its volume. My big concern is the grounding etc.

I might think about it some more, but it seems like if you have both
the coil cutter switches on at the same time, that the middle
pickup is going to be doing something weird, like sending the
connection between the N and S coils to both hot and ground
at the same time.

I think your right. What would that do? I was hoping it would just cut out the middle pup completely.

Ok Yeti, this is what I think I see. The lines are a little close together for my old eyes but I think I figured it out.

The parallel and series switchs on their face seem ok. There is something a little off about both splits on at the same time but I don't think it is fatal. When you pull both splits at the same time all four of the middle pickups leads will be grounded and the pickup will be out of the circuit. The 3 way switch will be grounded as well when the mid pickup volume pot is at 10. The mid volume pot will isolate the switch from ground when it is at zero.

The mid position volume pot will act like a reverse master volume for the guitar when both split switches are pulled.

Ahh, so just keeping the mid volume at zero before splitting the other 2 should be ok. That works...might even find some odd way to use the quot;reverse volumequot; to my advantage.

It might make things easier to have one volume knob per pickup and then just one tone knob. How many holes in your guitar do you have to work with? If you've got four, your volumes could be your split/whatever with push/pull, then you have your tone knob. Or you could do it with one master volume and three push/pull tone knobs. I suggest one master volume because it makes things easier when playing live. It might even make more sense to have the tone or volume knob for the center pickup (whichever arrangement you desire the push/pull) to instead shut off the center pickup totally when pulled out. Anyways, let me know please.

I actually have it set up for 1 volume knob per pup, with a master tone. The problem is, that leaves the mid pup in the mix no matter were your 3 way toggle is at, so the quot;reverse volquot; effect will occur anytime my mid pup vol is up. However, my current wiring also has the 3 vol, 1 tone set up, and the mid pup is never a prob when i want to do quick switches from neck to bridge tone. I just don't use it that much. Hopefully that will change with new pups, but overall, this project is more a 'recording and experimentingquot; guitar then a performance one, so i can take the time to dial in the sound i want. After a few months, when i get an idea what's useable for me and what isn't, i'll go to the next level of the perfect quot;performancequot; setup. But I am scribbling down notes from all this great input for future reference.

You could possibly try to find a three-switch version of the DPDT switch, maybe a TPTT switch, but that might be a little exotic. But hey, at least you could put all of them in split with that arrangement, but you wouldn't need two positions then, more like one, so maybe a TPST switch, so that you pick which coils you're splitting TO (like split north or split south) and then from there you have your 5 way switch, ala Stratocaster, and a single volume and a single tone. But hey, that's just what I would do ...
