I have a Peavey 50/50 classic series power amp and I think it's cool for the band I play in where we cover classic hard rock songs. However, I am in doubt and consider to buy a Marshall 50/50 amp. I always thought it was to agressive and very middly. What would you preference be?
All depends on what the Preamp is.......?
Mesa 50:50. For the price range, there's not much better. That is, of course, if you like the sound of 6L6's.
I agree on teh 50:50 stereo (or the new stereo Two:Fifty), but the preamp is MUUUUCH more crucial to your tone.... the quot;perfectquot; poweramp adds zero coloration (but doesn´t exist in this dimension)
The pre-amp is the Marshall JMP-1. I have the standard chinese tubes replaced by JJ tubes which makes the sound clearer and thigther. I somehow miss a raunchy and juicy soloing sound. I now have put a SD CC in my Charvel which should give a warmer and fatter sound. I only tried it on my JMP, directly connected to the mixer sofar and it's an improvement already. But I figured that perhaps the match of Peavey and Marshall is not a logical one???
