What pickup combo is in your Fat Telecasters? I'd also like a mini review.
thanks
I have a Jerry donahue in the bridge and a SM-1 mini humbucker in the neck. I have great classic tele tones in the bridge position with beutiful twang when clean and enough muscle to rock out when dirty. From the neck, I get a bit fatter than a standard single, but more clatrity and sparkle than a full sized PAF. It's a great sound for clean jazz and blues and with enough gain, it gets pretty creamy. The middle position is cool, but not exactly like a classic tele. If fact, for playing clean in the middle position, I preffer my 69 RI Thinline with the STL-2/STR-2 Hot set (which is also plenty fat in it's own right).
Hmmm . . . can I count my Genny Tele-clone as a phat Tele?
I'll only talk about the C5, 'cause the QP's aren't really the Tele-ish part of the sound. The Custom 5 however, strikes me as the perfect Tele bridge pup. At least, in my setup. When used by itself, it immediately says quot;countryquot; to me, with just the right amount of quot;twangquot;. But it still maintains a rich, harmonic, and smooth character of a humbucker.
Its the only guitar I have where I'll use the bridge pup by itself - and I end up using it by itself, most of the time. Now, I'm just looking for the right American Tele to move everything over to.
It's my new favorite guitar.
