...what tonal characteristics do you think of? I was just thinking about this. People toss this word around a lot. I've always been more into classic marshall and hiwatt type sounds, so quot;modernquot; has never really been my thing. To me, I guess it means pretty high gain, with a less complex, more blunt midrange character with tighter lows than a more vintage type of rock sound. What does it mean to you?

I was just looking at the Phat Cats . . . again. Just wondering, does anyone know where the magnet lies? Is it a bar magnet thats offset to one side?

I have replaced my SSL-3 with a hot stack because of the humming associated with the SSL-3 - and now I have a new problem - the new Hot Stack (which has single magnet bar instead of staggered magnets) is not louder than my other 2 Di-Marzio pick-ups - and they are low output pickups. Yet according to your chart it is a high output pu. The sound of the new SSTK-S2 is great and there is no more humming but it is not as wild as the SSL-3 - Could I have wired it in single mode? I have red white together - isolated and not touching the guitar, green and earthing wires = earth, and the black = live output. Help! What have I done wrong or are they simply low output?

i was in GC the other day checking out amps, and i cant keep my eye off this black 72 les paul. its pretty dinged up. has a crack about 1/9th an inch deep in between the pickups and the crack continues all the way down the guitar. not on the neck though. this is a 1972 custom shop. it has gold hardware. plays like a dream. should i sell my 04 sg twards it? the origonal price was 1500 and the manager came down to 1100. i have always wanted a les paul and my dad could re-finish it but im kind of skeptical of selling an almost beand new sg for something that has been around the block a few times. any advice?

I'm gonna get rid of that 5 pos rotary switch on my PRS custom 22. Will I have to reverse a magnet or two in the pups to make the middle position work? I know the PRS humbuckers have one mag in each, I think, turned around to allow for those single coil combinations. Will that have an effect on 3-way switch positions? I don't want a coil tap or anything, just a standard 3-way ala Les Paul. Thanks, y'all are always a great help.
