Alright guys I have really been GASin for a class a amp for a while...it was my goal to spend this past Saturday checking out Dr. Z amps at a dealer here in Atl. I played the amp that I thought I wanted the Maz 18 Jr. 2x10 with reverb. It was a really sweet amp, but it didn't quite have the breakup I was looking for and quite honestly would be too loud for my use. On to the Carmen Ghia....it sounded great, but in order to get the breakup I was looking for I had to crank it past where it would be usable in the church environment I play in. These both were great amps and I was highly impressed. I just didn't hear the sound I have in my head so I left somewhat disapointed. Since guitar center is just down the street I stopped in. They had many of the really nice names(used) Tophat, Diezil (spelling??) Mesa....you get the picture, but somehow I ended up playing on a blonde Crate V32 which is a class a EL84 amp special edition exclusive to GC.(Not to be mistaken with the black V30) Now in the past I have been a snob about even being seen near a Crate, but a guy I know that worked there convinced me to try it. Let me just say this, after I finally humbled myself to get past my Crate phobia I plugged in a Highway 1 Tele and honestly was in tone heaven!!! That thing sounded awesome!!!! It has a really killer sounding clean and the OD is quite nice as well!! I am not by any means trying to compare Zs with Crate here, but I must say that I am talking more to my guitar buddies about the $599 Crate than I am the Zs that I played. There again the Zs were gorgeous, but so was the price tag$$$$. I have never been too cheap to pay for high end stuff, but I think as soon as I get over my name brand arrogance I will be back for the V32. I would have never believed it, but I was really impressed!!

Anyone have any experence with rio grande tele pickups?
Last thread got going in the wrong direction, I dont want a damn humbucker in my tele.Anyway, I was wanting to know, for a warm (but not distorted) and twangy tone, thats suitable for rockabilly on cleans, but good for woodstock style rock on overdrive, would the tallboy set or half breed set be better? or possibly even the muy grande? No, im not interested in seymour duncan's, emg's, dimarzio's, fender's, tom anderson's, bare knuckle's, or anything else.

Maybe Seymour Knows?
I have always wondered why there isn't a pickup with aluminum wire for the coils rather than copper? I think since aluminum has greater resistance you could wind less turns and get a higher resistance. Although you may get more inductance, and capacitance. My line of thinking was a low output distortion pickup.

Good little tube amp?
Hey - as well as looking for a good 'real' amp for my more modern tastes, I'd also love to get ahold of a vintage [style] small tube amp. I was thinking like... old champ or copy, crate V-5, or something of the sort. Cheap = good, but it can't be a total POS either. Any ideas?

Strat w/Hot Rails needs neck pup?
I had a strat with a HR in th the bridge and Duckburster in mid. In the had
a Lil 59 which was good, but I was wondering what I could do to get a no hum powerful strong strat neck tone but HR bridge? Maybe I should change out middle duckbucker for something stronger too?

Ok heres the plan...
I am a man who loves his punk and metal, my first guitar was a tele but i was a little disappointed with it (it was squier but still). i love my current guitar (Jackson Dinky India made me thinks) But i want to get a fender strat (not a squier) and i was wondering would i like this if i did not like my tele, i don't have much experiance with single coils (the tele had humbuckers as well as my jack) can anyone give me some insight as to whether or not i can get a nice metal/punkish sound with single coils? anyone wanna tell me why they like their strats?

Update on my new Jazz and JB
A while back I had posted some questions about my new SD pickups I was putting in my Washburn. I had purchased the pickups from Musicians Friend from their quot;scratch and dentquot; listing which saved me about $15 over their normal price.

Has anybody killed a pickup
I'm not sure if I did or not. I had a DMZ Super Distortion. It seemed to be working well. One day, I'm measuring the resistance each coil and one won't read. So I take the pickup apart. As I'm trying to see behind the tape of one coil, I see the one little strand come off, dead.
