I just got back into town and was lucky enough that the EMB was still on my porch It looks great, the right ears were bent a bit, but I started to fix that. The build quality is superb and the insides are very tidy on a fairly small board.

mesa stilleto
ok I played the stilleto today and this is what I did. I put it on 50 watt, with the switch set on the punchy setting. maxed the presence and gain and high's and low's and only half (5) on mid. thats about as gainy scooped as you can get on a el34 type amp. I played thru a half stack full of vintage 30's and bent down in front of the 4 speakers instead of sitting above them on a stool and realy listened to the amp. It was both punchy and clipy and the gain was there as well but not as gainy as a recto but thats due to the el34 tubes in this amp. I thought it sounded significantly better than my old jcm 800 marshall head wich lacked gain and bottom end, this amp had bottom end with the base maxed and I could get the american fat strat to chirp and squill nicely. it does have plenty of gain but again its not as pronounced as on the recto's with there 6L6 tubes but its there and it does have that nice el34 clip. I did not try the clean channel or other settings on the amp as I just wanted to see how crunchy I could get the thing mainly useing it for distortion only. Those in the know say Bogner has the clip and the real liquad gain to match. its also more than 2000 more than the stilleto. my guess is that there are gunna be the usuall amp hot rodders out there who will add that much more gain to the stilleto to make it that much better but for how much money? anyway the gain is fine for most things anyways but now I have to hear a bogner to see whats up as those with the cash to buy anything are swearing by them. still I have to wonder, if some one could hot rod the stilleto with even more gain for people just useing it for distortion only would it be a cheaper and almost as good as the bogners distortion? this I dont know.

Pickups with tight bass and enough output (metal, strat size if possible)
yeaaah I made a few threads but er... I didn't get as much info as I hoped... so I reiterate, sorry...
What pickups by SD or DiMarzio (...) have tight bass? The Full Shred I hear (which will shortly end up in my model 4) and what others? I'm interested mostly in the SC size humbuckers Thanks for any feedback.

The guitar is a midrange instrument....
....and for that reason, maybe many of us should look at pickups with less of an exaggerated midrange. After all, mids on top of mids on top of mids can equal a tubby mess. I think this is why a lot of guys like the C-5. It really allows the guitar to do what it was meant to do....have its natural mids shine through without a mid dense pickup coloring the tone. I have been thinking this way a lot lately realizing you can dial up all the mids you want with a decent amp and decent guitar so maybe it isn't good to rely so heavily on the pickup to provide the mids to cut the mix.....

shr-1 hot rails good or bad?
hey i just had the shr-1 hot rails installed on my jackson dinky i think is what its called because i was told on the musicians friend ratings by just about everyone that they would make my guitar sound somwhat like srv's or kws's tone well i have them put in my guitar and they sound horriable!!! it sounds very muffled when switched all they way up and one down its sounds ok i dont know if my installer put them in wrong or what it said on the instrustions there were 3 different ways to connect it , also i have a marshall mg series 50 dfx , ts7 tube screamer with drive, tone, and level knobs with a optional ts9 and hot switch on it, dime custom wah petal, super octave, and the hot rails installed in my neck pick-up now is there any way i could get the srv sound out of that stuff i mentioned?

Wiring question regarding an odd pickup...
See, I bought this cheapo humbucker for my Epi strat, to give it a little more chunk at the bridge, but I'm kinda confused.

Question about tube amps . . .
I know that vacuume tubes give certain distortion charecteristics that everyone loves, and that the clipping from solid state diodes don't really live up to all that . . . but I was just wondering if there is any difference in the clean sound? Like from what I understand, the clean sound from tubes should be exactly the same as the clean sound from s.s. amps. Anyone know for sure?

Good Bridge Humbucker for Tele
I'm wondering if any of you have tried any bridge humbuckers in alder or ash-bodied teles, with a humbucker version of the metal tele bridge/bridge pickup setup. I'm looking for a low or medium output pickup with a good organic sound.
