hey i just had the shr-1 hot rails installed on my jackson dinky i think is what its called because i was told on the musicians friend ratings by just about everyone that they would make my guitar sound somwhat like srv's or kws's tone well i have them put in my guitar and they sound horriable!!! it sounds very muffled when switched all they way up and one down its sounds ok i dont know if my installer put them in wrong or what it said on the instrustions there were 3 different ways to connect it , also i have a marshall mg series 50 dfx , ts7 tube screamer with drive, tone, and level knobs with a optional ts9 and hot switch on it, dime custom wah petal, super octave, and the hot rails installed in my neck pick-up now is there any way i could get the srv sound out of that stuff i mentioned?

I have hot rails in my strat and I think they sound good.

I have two Hot Rails in one of my guitars, and it sounds great ... not muffled at all!

Wow, you were definitely mislead. If you bought it recently, you should be able to exchange it with . I wouldn't say it was quot;muffledquot; per se (it's hot and it has a ton of midrange punch), but if you were looking for a vintage single-coil thing, then I can see your point.

There's not much chance of really capturing an SRV tone out of a Hot Rail in the neck. Is the Hot Rail a bridge or neck design? The bridge pickup is very hot-- about 16 ohms-- the neck is about 10 ohms; SRV used pickups that measured around 6 ohms. What kind of wood is used in the Jackson?

I believe you have about 21 days to return a SD pickup if you're not happy with it.

What's a petal ?

That entire setup sounds a little too powerful to get SRV's sound...

I personally love the hot rails in the bridge of my strat, but they are anything but SRV's sound. They sound more quot;metalquot; than classic rock. My HR sound very crisp, aggressive, and clear. Not at all muffled. Did you make sure you ordered a neck model? A bridge model in the neck position would sound very dark. Either way, it still won't get SRV's tone.

If I were you, I would use SD's 21 day return policy if you really want something like SRV's tone. Try either a low output single coil (like the SSL 1 or the APS 2). If you need it to be hum canceling, go with a Classic Stack . I think even a cool rails pickup would be a little too heavy for the sound you are describing.
