Someone (nuntius) posted a video of Tommy Emmanuel in the Tips and Clips area and this made me think that there are tons of guitarists out there like Tommy that are phenominal and in some cases are fairly famous, but still a lot of folks don't know about them. What guitarsist do you know of that fits this bill?

Three names in particular that come to my mind are:
Doyle Dykes
Junior Brown
Johnny Hiland

I'm sure I'll think of more!!!

Jan Akerman of Focus....Early 70s....(Hocus Pocus)was their claim to fame..
Bill Nelson....BeBop Deluxe guitarist..Excellent guitar player and very unknown..

Me!

Seriously, though, I think there are some guys on this forum that really deserve some recognition. They've got great talent.

I like me some Junior Brown, too.

Hadley Hockensmith
Dean Parks
Tim Pierce
Micheal Thompson
Uffe Steen
Gordon Kennedy
Charles quot;Icarusquot; Johnson
Just to name a few

I'd love to see him play. He sounds like he's all over the guitar.

Someone here just recently turned me on to Shawn Lane. Amazing guitarist who was with Black Oak Arkansas for awhile. Unfortunately, he died of some health problem some time ago.

I'm a nut for the late, great Randy California of Spirit..

Hendrix named him, ya know..

When Randy Wolfe was 15 he moved to New York with his Mom amp; Step Father (Ed Cassidy - Spirit's drummer). He met Jimi at Manny's, they jammed, amp; Randy joined Jimmy James amp; the Blue Flames. Randy played for like 3 months with Jimi. Jimi named the base player Randy Texas, amp; he called Wolfe Randy California, 'cause that's where he was from. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I cant believe no one mentioned Eddy Shaver

Maybe because he's not widely known???

Gary Hoey !!!

Carl August Tidemann who is absolutely an amazing classical shredder. Also black metal never gets guitar praise. Isahn of emperor is a great unique player.

Tommy Bolin. He's my idol.

Michael landau. The living king of strat tone.

Brett Garsed. The perfect balance between rock and fusion, and a killer slide player to boot.

Leo Nocentelli. Defined an entire style of playing. Mr New Orleans.

My guitar teacher is a major badass on guitar.

Kevin Bright in Norah Jones' Band.

If you like accoustic blues stuff, check out Bjørn Berge. He is one mean mother!!

from : localhost/site got some sound amp; vids.

Prince too is a great player. He might be famous, but not for his guitar skills.

J. Mascis (or is he too well known?)

Frank Marino
Richie Kotzen
Greg Howe
Blues Saraceno
John Sykes
Alvin Lee

I know a lot of people here have heard of those guys but the average music fan hasn`t. What a shame!

ive seen tommy here in st louis twice, once in decatur, and once in peoria IL, man...he is indeed the 11 fingered beast from down under.
