Clapton needs to get a Gibson or at least put Hummbuckers on his guitar. I have the crossroads DVD and just bought the reunion CD and the Fender single coil tone just ain't it with his style! Stevie or Jimmie Vaughn, Hendrix, Buddy Guy, John Maynard (SP), sound gret on Fenders But not Clapton.

Graph Tech String Savers
A local shop had some string savers in stock. However, they are for the import strats not the vintage trem strat like the JV strat has. It looks like they will work. What do you think? Is there really much difference? between the Graph Tech String Savers for import vs. for the vintage trem set? The JV is an import so I really should be fine with these. What do you think?

Got my tacocaster back from the shop...
Yup, finally got my mexi-strat (tacocaster) back from the shop. I'm just going to sum it up.... this strat was NEVER set-up after the origional purchase, and the guy ho had it before me wasn't experienced and put on thicker strings which pulled up the bridge and pulled the neck up.

Any way to check and see if a pickup is working without putting it in a guitar?
I have a couple of used pickups coming and I'm not going to be ready to put them in yet.

Carvin Legacy or keep the Single Recitfier?
Love the Solo 50 but need some xtra cash and a cheap replacement amp. Is the Legacy worth it?

Springsteen sounding pickups?
As I mentioned in a previous thread, I'm building a Tele (swamp ash maple), and am deciding on pickups. I was thinking of going with the Five-Two bridge, but listening to the newly remastered Born To Run, Bruce has such a great sound. Does anyone have any thoughts about which pickup will best capture the Born To Run - Darkness on the Edge of Town era Bruce tone? I know he's used Bardens in recent years, but I'm thinking about his mid-to-late 1970s tone. Thanks for any input.

An Idea.. Magnets in the UK?
I'm thinking about doing a few hybrids, namely an A2 screamin' demon, and either a custom 8 7-string JB or another A2 one.. basically, i'm looking to buy a few magnets. if i get the minimum order covered, would any UK/europe guys be interested in a couple for experimentation?

Duncan Distortion in mahogany?
I've been considering sticking an SH6 in my LTD DV8 R SE, and I'm looking for some opinions on how this guitar would sound with one in the bridge.
The guitar has a mahogany neck and body (neck-thru construction), a flamed maple top, a string thru body tone pros tune-o-matic bridge, and a rosewood fretboard, tuned to D standard. I play very high gain death/thrash metal through an Engl Fireball. The stock JB, while I do like it, just isn't quite quite cutting it. This became pretty obvious when I got back with my old band and I let the other guitarist plug his 81 equipped PS series Rhoads into my rig. Now, I know the SH6 isn't going to sound like and 81, but I do need something that will push the front end of my amp harder with a less bright voicing (than the JB). I have an SH6 in another guitar (which I love), but it's alder with a maple neck (neck thru) and a Floyd, so I don't think that's the best reference point (and no, I'm not going to remove the SH6 from that guitar just to try it in the other, setting up a floyd sucks).
