I've been considering sticking an SH6 in my LTD DV8 R SE, and I'm looking for some opinions on how this guitar would sound with one in the bridge.
The guitar has a mahogany neck and body (neck-thru construction), a flamed maple top, a string thru body tone pros tune-o-matic bridge, and a rosewood fretboard, tuned to D standard. I play very high gain death/thrash metal through an Engl Fireball. The stock JB, while I do like it, just isn't quite quite cutting it. This became pretty obvious when I got back with my old band and I let the other guitarist plug his 81 equipped PS series Rhoads into my rig. Now, I know the SH6 isn't going to sound like and 81, but I do need something that will push the front end of my amp harder with a less bright voicing (than the JB). I have an SH6 in another guitar (which I love), but it's alder with a maple neck (neck thru) and a Floyd, so I don't think that's the best reference point (and no, I'm not going to remove the SH6 from that guitar just to try it in the other, setting up a floyd sucks).

Do any of you (especially those of you who play the same typye of music as me) think the SH6 would be a good choice?

Thanks.

I had the Distortion in my Les Paul for awhile. It's of similar construction it sounds, except for the Neck-Thru part. I thought it sounded great and was quite aggressive. That JB can just be too bright in a Mahogany/maple guitar sometimes, as it was in my LP. I liked the Distortion much better than the JB in that rig.

I took the Distortion out of my LP because another guitar needed it worse. Otherwise, it would still be in.

Just my $.02

Thanks, that's just what I wanted to hear!

I'd also say the DD is exactly what you're looking for.

Killer avatar! RIP, Chuck.

i have a DD in my ltd ex-351, which is mahogany bodied (and ltd too), and it sounds kickass in there. best rhythm tone, ever. dont see why it wouldnt work just as well for you (though i do love the JB just as much, but for different reasons)
