Anyone else love the sound on this live album? I find amazing that he got that sound from Plexis, it sounds like a JCM800. Love that lead tone, almost honks in a way. I wish I could get a sound like that out of a strat style guitar. I just sounds so thick.Doctor Doctor must be played at high volume!
I'm a huge UFO/MSG fan!!
This thread may get moved to off topic, tho, b/c it's not gear related.
Whoops. I figured I would post it here because it had to do with quot;Live Soundquot;. Oh well.
I picked up that cd a couple of months ago and it's great! His solo on Lights Out kills!
mad mike kills on that cd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ya gotta love his tone and touch man he is awesome!
they say marshall designed the jcm800 based on michael schencker's tone
Michael uses 2205 amp; 2210 heads but I don't know if they were available when they did Strangers. Always a Marshall guy though as far as I have ever seen, maybe early JCM 800's or Plexi's on there. I love Schenker I hope he can keep his life together and make a go of it again.
That album is a tie for my top spot of fave album ever (The other being MSG's One night at Budokan).
Incredible tone, and Michael was jes starting to hit his playing prime.
He did use plexis/non MV heads at that time.
I read an article many moons ago in a guitar rag that said the 800 series pre-amp voicing was based on his tone in the late UFO days..don' know if thats true or not.
I used to play along with that album all the time as a teen..I could never cop all his leads, but I used to know the rhythms/riffs/lead fills pretty well. The extended solo on Rock Bottom of course is THE classic...as well as Lights Out. However my fave solos from that album are on Let it Roll, and This Kids.
If you like SitN, def check out One Night at Budokan...that is Mike in his playing prime and IMO the best guitar tone of his career (Rivera modded PLexi's/800s)
