I was just looking through the tone chart as I'm interested in buying a mahogany slab humbucker guitar and installing some Phat Cats. I've heard so many great things about the Phat Cats here so I thought I'd get in on the action.
I can't find any mention of the Phat Cats in the tone chart. Is Phat Cat just a generic term for P-90's made by or am I mising something?
Help please

Help pleasePhat cats are a Duncan pickup, they are not on the tone chart yet...they are P-90's that fit in a humbucking pickup size hole...if you are looking for a guitar to put them in, and IIRC you are a lefty...look into an Epi SG...dupm the stock buckers and drop in a set of PC's...
Wow! I was actually thinking about an Epi SG. That's currently my no. 1 choice anyway. Is there much difference in quality in the Epiphone SG range? Because there's quite a gulf in the price spectrum.
This is for the guy who invented fire. I really appreciate all the replies you've posted to my threads. I feel bad for complaining the way that I did about the Forum. This is a really great place with lots of great people like yourself who obviously spend a lot of time answering the questions of amateurs like me. I would like to formally apologise to anyone who may have read my childish rants and hopefully amend my chances of being accepted here. I'd like to stick around for a long time if the community will allow me to. I've already learnt so much from the good people of the Forum. Again I am truly sorry for any distress I've caused and I promise to behave better in the future, if you'll have me that is.
don't sweat the rants, just keep in mind this place moves pretty quick sometimes, and some posts get lost in the shuffle, and it can be pretty dead on the weekends! As for the Epi Sg's, I don't know too much about them...let me ask this...what is your price range?
I think I could stretch to the G400 but only if it's worth it. If you're paying extra for better pickups then ovboiusly I'd be daft to Spend more as I'm only gonna take 'em out soon as I get it. But if the construction is better then it may be worth it.

I reckon about ?300 (?580 approx) I know it's not much for a guitar but I'd probably wait for something on Ebay. I'm not exactly in a rush
Anything below the G400 is a bolt on neck, so if you want a more authentic SG sound, that's the one to get.
As far as the Phat Cats go, I love the set I have in my Epi Sheraton. The sound is right between a humbucker and a single, just like a good P-90. As far as the tone chart goes, it's rumored that the closest pickups to the Phat Cats are the Vintage P-90 set. Check those out and listen to the clips. It might help you make a decision.
