Well, I was able to get the control holes drilled and the guts mounted to the guard this weekend. All I'm waiting on now are the aluminum rings to finish it off.

FS or FT: Ampeg Super Rocket Guitar Combo Amp
This is one of the most under rated amps i've ever played... i'm the original owner and it just recently got a check up because it's still under the warantee... it is an all tube, dual channel amp with reverb and tremolo... three tone control knobs, tremolo speed and intensity knob, reverb, overdrive, and master volume.. two inputs, line in/out... the speakers have recently been replaced was a new celestion vintage 30 and an eminence private jack (greenback) 12' speaker with very low hours on them... i still have the footswitch and cable... a little road rash but the diamond blue tolex still looks good... this is the working mans amp.. i've never had any problems with it... i also have a matching 4X12 diamond blue matching cabinet for it as well in you're interested... $750 for the combo and $300 for the 4X12 cab...

EPI LP standard or Gibson LP studio?
im in a dificult choice between these two fine instruments and will be changing the stock pickups to duncans(dont care for the 498t,490 gibsons).Ive heard that alot of folks prefer epiphone LP standards to the Gibson LP studios.
just wanted to make sure thats a sure thing to get, rather than the real deal gibsons.

JB or DD opinions
I just put a TB-4 in my MIM strat.I had a HB103 Duncan Designed in before and really liked it alot but wanted to step it up.Should I have swapped the magnet and put in a DD? I was on the fence for a week about swapping because the HB is supposed to be based on the DD, but I put in the TB4 first as is.Now it sounds thinner .Who's tried both in their strats ? Will the DD give me some thickness and bass back? Somehow I think I should have swapped the magnets first.

Tailfeather Bridge
There is apparently a new type of bridge for strat body guitars called the Tailfeather which, in addition to converting a trem bridge to a hardtail also reduces the weight of the guitar because it's made of lighter material. I'm considering getting one but I'm curious to know if anyone on here has heard anything or has any experience with one of these things. Their site is at www.tailfeatherz.com

Refinishing an acoustic (con't)
I'm now halfway through the sanding. Turns out this guitar was probably made of cheap wood and covered with very thin laminates which happens not to survive very well to the process. I'll be more carefull in the front as I'd like to create a sunburst finish. If the top goes to hell too, it'll be all black.

Pickups for Les Paul/DRRI.
Well, let's see if I can get some answers here. I recently bought a Fender DRRI. Perfect amp for my needs as I jam in the basement. The amp sounds great with my Telecaster. Just a great full, clear, clean and rounded tone. Not so great with my Les Paul, though. My guitar is the swamp ash Studio model with the stock 490R neck and 498T bridge pickups which I've been thinking of changing anyway. The neck pickup really isn't too bad but if I had to describe the bridge pickups in two words it would be quot;too thickquot; and I think I need a pickup that's not so high in output. The high end lacks presence and the mids seem a bit too much. They're the kind that seem to really grind on your ears. Really kinda bothersome. I need something that's clearer with a lower output and seems to have a bit of overall presence to it without being ice-pickey. I'm open to any and all suggestions. Thanks.

Replacing too-bright original pups
I'm unhappy with the over-bright, almost tinny sound my '87 American Standard Strat produces. I'd like to get rid of the hum, keep the Strat quack (although a little chunkier would be nice) and push up the output just a little - the stock pickups seem a bit weak to me (and when I try to compensate with the amp, well, the hum just goes up too...).
