i've been talking to a local luthier and he claimed that the older(the ones made in the late 80's early 90's) emg humbuckers like the 85 or the 81 had a little bit more output than the ones they are making now. I didn't want to believe it but infact i was thinking the same about my 92 emg85 and my new 2005 emg 85...there's a slight difference in output between the two.....has anyone of the emg users here noticed anything similar?

Blackwood Stroll
I just put down a little ditty I can't stop playing these days, in dropped D. I added a quick slide overdub, but it's the acoustic part I like.

How will this sound?
Hey, I've got an Epiphone G-400 with a Dimebucker bridge and a '59 neck (no, I don't like/listen to/enjoy Dimebag Darrel, I just like the pickups) and I love the sound of the dime and the dime and 59 together but I'm just not digging the '59 on its own. I have a JB laying around and I think I'm going to install it in the neck (I know its a bridge model, they all are) and I want to know if the spacing will be accurate and how it will sound. Thanks!

PAF type pickups in Basswood.
Will the slight mid scoop in a PAF type pickup compliment a basswood guitar?

Replacing too-bright original pups
I'm unhappy with the over-bright, almost tinny sound my '87 American Standard Strat produces. I'd like to get rid of the hum, keep the Strat quack (although a little chunkier would be nice) and push up the output just a little - the stock pickups seem a bit weak to me (and when I try to compensate with the amp, well, the hum just goes up too...).

FS: 59 Bridge Gold Cover (Open Box
I've got (1) open box Gold Cover 59 Bridge (Single Conductor) for sale. It has never been installed, so its essential brand new for all practical purposes. There is at least (1) black coil under the hood. I can't tell what color the other coil is.

Charvel fusion pickup advice
Hey, I just got a Charvel Fusion Special and I'm wondering what pickups to put in. The woods for fretboard, neck and body are rosewood, maple and alder I believe. The pickup configuration is pretty bizzare-two slanted single coils touching at the bridge position and one normal in the neck position. I'm looking for thrash metal tone similar to Testament, Vio-lence, Nuclear Assault but I'm trying to stay away from a flat-over compressed sound.

Help on new purchase
I made the mistake of going to Guitar Center to purchase replacment pickups for my Carvin strat. I asked for a 59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge. One of the employees said he could do the install. He said he could use the coil splitters that were already on my guitar. My problems are this, the tech installed a bridge version of the 59 pickup in the neck and he could not get the coil splitters to work on either pickup. I was also curious if all pickups say on them as the 59 pickup does not have any text on it but he JB does. I want Guitar Center to replace the 59 in the neck with the right pickup and to fix the coil splitter. Any thoughts.
Thanks,
