trying LP copies yesterday.
After spending the with my wife shopping for clothes, we made a stop at the new Guitar Center in Baton Rouge.
First, I went into the acoutic room. Played a couple of really nice Taylors, and a $500 Epi dreadnought that was pretty amazing. BUT, the first Taylor I picked up was a mahogony body e/acoustic with an MSRP of $3G, sell price of $2300. IT WAS HORRIBLY OUT OF TUNE! Man, I need this occasional reminder of why the local dealers are so much better. I might understand if this was one of the $100 beaters on a stand outside the acoustic room, or one of the cheaper models on a stand as you walk in. These could be tampered with by anyone walking by. But a $3G Taylor on the back wall...
Back to the LP. I played a cherry-burst Epi LP that sounded awesome! Again, IT was out of tune...but it was on a stand on the sales floor. The only problem was that it periodically went back OUT of tune. Of course, this could probably be corrected by a minor tightening of the tuners...I even suggested to the guitar department manager that he do so. Otherwise, the instrument was beautiful both cosmetically and tonally. I'm not even certain I would have given it the Duncan treatment. It really sounded good.
I played the LP through an old Fender Blues Jr. Now, I am not really a fan of most Fender amps, but...this thing sounded GOOD! I didn't have alot of time to put it through its paces, and I was really test-driving the guitar. However, I must say that I was impressed with this little guy.I played the solo from Bohemian Rhapsody, and one of the clerks came over and said, quot;I don't think I've ever heard Brian May pulled off in this store.quot; I responded with surprise that this wasn't one of those recurring nightmares of guitar salesmen...you know, the licks that quot;everybodyquot; plays. He said that he mostly hears either SRV or Metallica. Then again, I don't think he recognized the licks from Kansas and Triumph...and I'm fairly certain he didn't recognize the licks from various worship songs by Vineyard or Integrity. No worries. And certainly no Metallica from my hands (I only know the signature lick from Enter Sandman...and I don't care to learn more).
Any other test drive stories this weekend?
I am disappointed that you did not play any metallica gt;:[
