this is different, I've never seen a (silver) jubilee with black tolex...Wouldn't that kinda defy the point of calling it a silver jubilee, of are they refering to the control panell?

CLICK ME!!!

The term quot;silver jubileequot; refers to the fact it was made in honour of Marshall's 25th anniversary (silver = 25 years when it comes to anniversaries), not that the amp itself is silver.

Also, if you read the description, he says it was converted to black tolex for whatever reason, and he's including the NOS silver if you want to convert it back.

Looks like the owner took a special amp and wanted to make it look ordinary. What a ****** bag.

As far as I'm aware, all the Silver Jubilees were silver (grey) tolex. Marshall did issue the same amp as a regular amp- whether it had the same model designation... and then it was also reincarnated as the Slash amp.

Don't forget, back in the day, a lot of people spray painted checkerboard face cabs black so they would look like the newer JCM series. The cabinet my head is in was for a 100w amp. A previous owner wanted it to look like a 50w, so he filled in the grille on top of the head, and took some tolex off the bottom.

Yes, that's right, but I am saying it's not called a Silver Jubilee BECAUSE it's silver ... it's actually the opposite.

hell ya!

25/50 means Jim Marshall's amp company was in business 25 years, but his time involved in music was 50 years. It confuses people when they see the badge on the upper left corner of the amp. They all say 25/50, even though Jubilees had model names like
2555, 2550, 2558, 2553 etc. The only amp that is truly a Jubilee 2550 is the fullsize 50watt head.

The Silver Jubilees were only produced in 1987, and my first major purchase in life was a 2555 100W head, which I bought brand new for $880 out the door, since the salesman really knew I wanted it badly. They normally sold for $900 tax.
I used the amp for several years, and sold it like a moron to buy a rack setup.

In 1988, Marshall still made those amps, only they were black with gold front. Same amp, but a little less collectible.

In 2000, I saw an ad pop up in the recycler.com for a 2550 Jubilee fullstack with original covers, manual, and bumper sticker. I couldn't believe it said $1500 obo.
I drove way out into the middle of the California desert, and handed this guy $1400 for his mint stack, which he pulled out of his closet. I have JJ E-34L's and Sovtek 12AX7LPS pre tubes in it, and it's the best sounding highgain I've ever heard come out of any Marshall.......clean and midgain tones are great too.
Here it is.*drools over keyboard* not again!

If there's any Jubilee enthusiasts out there.......put in JJ E-34L's and Sovtek 12AX7LPS or GT12AX7C's. I did a thorough tube shootout in this amp, and those were the clear winners. I've heard Jubilees that sounded terrible compared to this one, so I know it's a tube issue. They came stock with Siemens EL-34's and generic 12AX7's, and after my tube shootout, I realized that I liked the JJ's more than the Siemens!!! Surprising!

GJ, you're a true gear ho...but this time, the knowledge you've learned from you many years or hoing(??) were 8 posts late

got any clips of your Jubilee? any of the ecstasy???

GJ im thinking they should make it illegal for you post pics of your gear, it's hazardous to people's gas.

Sorry about that. If it makes you feel any better....at least it's not sitting in some old man's dusty collection somewhere. These things were meant to be played. I take extreme care of them, but I plug into all those amps all the time.
I wouldn't care if I never got another guitar in my life, but I'm addicted to good amps! The ones I want now are either a 63 Vibroverb, Bogner 6L6 Shiva combo, or one of Scott F's Celtic amps.

I'm the proud owner of an '88 model 2555 (silver is ) and after trying a bunch of different tubes, I swear by EH 12AX7s and EH EL-34s. I'll have to agree that it's the best high gain sound Marshall has ever made, and probably the best they ever will.

I don't have the matching stack tho... Play mine through a beat to sh*t 70s straight cab with original G12Hs

I used to have a Marshall 2555SL with EH EL-34's and SovteK LPS12AX7's in it and it was a good amp! It sounded great but, I like my 2100 a tad bit more though!
