OK buildiers and repair guys..... I have a few questions about frets. I ordered StewMac's version of 6105's and they are smaller then the 6105's on my Warmoth neck.... I would assume StewMac's largest size frets would be smaller then that found on a Jackson since Stewmacs are not true Dunlop sizes.... Are Jackson's frets bigger then 6100's?

Where is a good place to buy good fret wire? I need huge jumbo wire for about 4 guitars... Warmoth sells fret wire i know but where is the best place?

Jackson frets on my Soloists and my DK are Dunlop 6000s. They measure .118 wide X .055 high. Dunlop 6100s are .110 X .055, 6105s are .090 X .055.

Are you sure they sent you the right kind? If I recall, Warmoth's 6105 is actually smaller than Dunlop 6105. Compare the measurements on the Warmoth site to the measurements on the Stewmac site.

Stewmac fretwire is good, so is Warmoth's. Dunlop's is nice as well, but I don't think they sell it in small quantities.

I don't know. I rely on my luthier.

Thanks! 6000 is noted! Nice fret wire!

Hi. Ya i thought they may of sent the wrong size but all the markings on the tube say it is the right size.... But the wire inside is not much bigger then the frets in a Mexican Standard Strat. Slightly taller just by a hair. The frets that are in my Epi Les paul are huge and tall and i have to refret that guitar.... Saddly the stew mac wire i have will not cut it. Guess i could try and order a pound of Stewmac Jumbo wire and see what i get.

Chris

You should only need 6 feet to refret a guitar...a pound of fretwire would be massive overkill.

Oh i know but i have others to do fret work to.. Plus i sometimes make my own necks at home... I have some slotted fingerboards and some truss rods from Warmoth that i need to use up soon. I want to make a nice strat body and neck soon....

SOme do have smaller or lower frets, like the Swee-Tones or some of the Imports, but these are for the most part rare or custom

Stupid me.... I won a $2000 dollars on a Candian lotto.... I took the cash and bought a Jackson reverse Dinky about 10 years ago. It was only $900 i think..... I then spent another 600 on a new Duncan JB pickup, had it refretted for smaller 6105 wire, and added a real Floyd Rose Original... This was a brand new guitar at the time and the builder tried to talk me out of it for an hour. But i finally made it clear i wanted the work done and he did it... Wish i had listened to him! I found another Dinky from the same year and left It stock! The trems never stayed in tune on those and i found out replacing the trem posts with the hardened Floyd Posts from Stewmac made a huge difference!

The newer Original Floyd mounted in the old Jackson trem holes but it is not a perfect fit.... The Original should of been mounted back a little bit as the saddles for the E and G string are back as far as they can go... it just intonates. i Can't stick the old trem back on as it was meant for a flatter radius and when they refretted the guitar they changed the radius to fit the OFR. It stills plays great and my main guitar for 10 years, but i wish i had left it original as i like those huge frets! My Charvel and my other Dinky has the stock huge frets and that is what i love these days.....

To be young and stupid!

PS for that Jackson i was thinking of making a homemade neck since you can not find any 24 fret replacements that easy...
