I severely desire a Fuchs ODS50 but don't have ~$3k to drop on an amp, so something like a modded Fender or Traynor head would be much more viable. I'm just curious how they sounds/how close to the real deal they are?

How 'bout a bump?

that looks pretty cool, I don't know anything about them but it looks like they basically rebuilt it, I mean enough to put an 'overdrive supreme' logo on it. Which implies to me that it now quot;isquot; one, rather than a modded traynor. and $1,400 beats $3,000 in my book.

I know for one thing they don't replace the transformers unless they're shot, which is one reason why I'm asking how close I could expect a mod to sound to a production model. The mod would run me $800, plus whatever I paid for the amp I send them. I'd be buying the amp and then waiting a few months before shipping it off.

They are close but IMO the real deal will have a bit more gain/mojo than a modded one. Obviously the base amp's transformer is going to have a good amount of influence on the tone and Fuchs' are great. Everything in their production amps virtually have an influence on the tone they produce. The better your base amp, the better the mod will turn out. Don't get me wrong, they both sound GREAT but you would have to put yourself in one of these categories:
1) Do you have enough for the production version? If so, or you can potentially swing it, it's worth it
2) The modded versions are very close and will serve you well, it's definetly a good buy and many folks start off with a modded version and later buy a production amp.

You might also watch ebay...I've seen a few modded Traynor YBAs, Fender Bandmasters and Bassmens lately. The prices have been pretty decent too...

I'll definitely have to start with a modded version, I don't have enough expendable income right now to be able to swing a production model. I'll probably have to go for a mod in two trips as it is .

I've heard the traynor yba-1s have great OTs, Hammond I think. I just remember that being one of the reasons they are so good for mods. If you look on ebay you could probably find a nice yba-1 around $350 give or take a little. Add the price for the mods and it definately sounds like a deal!

Save your money for the real thing, I played an ODS 100 and there's a ton of mojo there. Easily worth the 3 grand.

Just sold my Fuchs modded Traynor. It's a nifty amp but with EL34s, it sounds a lot different from the factory models. I'd expect that a modded Fender would have more of a factory Fuchs sound.
