I'm now halfway through the sanding. Turns out this guitar was probably made of cheap wood and covered with very thin laminates which happens not to survive very well to the process. I'll be more carefull in the front as I'd like to create a sunburst finish. If the top goes to hell too, it'll be all black.
I have another question: do you use a special type of tape to cover the binding before preparing the wood and applying the color coat? There's binding in the front and back. I need a tape that will be flexible enough support the radius of the body without creasing`.
Thanks.
getchoo some of that thin masking tape. It's like 1/4 an inch wide. While it's still on the roll wobble it around a bit to stretch it out. Then use that to cover the binding. It'll work just fine without creasing.
Thanks a lot man. I think I'll have to drop by a Home Depot before continuing.
Anytime bro. That stuff also comes in handy in pinstriping cars, if thats your thing.
