oh boy...
I got a quot;cannot shift objects off sheetquot; error message on a worksheet I'm
editing. Never saw this before. Tried to search for answer using quot;Helpquot; -
using the phrase (with quotes): quot;cannot shift objects off sheetquot;
I got No responses to my query AT ALL. Really! Try it yourself (using Excel
2003). The MS response was quot;No results found on Office Onlinequot;.
Don't you think their search algorithm stinks?
Am I alone thinking this?
I really (REALLY!) dislike their search function.
I managed to access the URL:
support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;211769
- this explained the error message, sorta, but it's about getting this error
message when you try to hide columns not re-size them (is that relevant?).
BUT... (this is the FUN part!)
1) There are no shapes or comments (objects) on this worksheet that I can find
2) Column C which was hidden, resized ('cause I thot it were an Object) will
not allow itself to be hidden again, and I get that error message when I try
to hide it, AND
3) the info on the above mentioned URL says I should:
(use the) quot;Format menu, click lt;object namegt;, where lt;object namegt; is the name
of the object, such as quot;Commentquot; or quot;AutoShapequot;. In the Format dialog box,
click the Properties tab.
Click Move and size with cells, and then click OK.
If you want to hide the cell comment again, right-click the cell, and then
click Hide Comment.
Wonderful! Yeah, but... my Format menu (Excel 2003) only has: Cells, Rows,
Column, Sheet, AutoFormat, Conditional Formatting and Style as options. Is
there some OTHER Format menu they're talking 'bout? This is getting to me...
I will gladly email you a copy of this worksheet iif it helps you analyze it.
Please take pity on a confused old man and help me... Thanks.

With Excel 2002 I've been able to fix this by deleting all rows amp;
columns beyond my data. It appears that Excel thinks there's something
out there amp; when you try to insert a row or col, it pushed the
siomething beyond the sheet limits.
Try that, see if it helps.

Hi
You need to reset Excel's perception of your last used cell. Have a look

tried to post this comment/update BEFORE, but... apparently MS is
brainless-proof.
Right after I posted this, I managed to find it.... and saw the other OP and
replies immed below.
Why doesn't MS TELL you that MERGED cells can cause this error message?
I READ IT HERE, not in ANY MS quot;Helpquot; I found so far... annoying, eh?

Finally fixed, thanks to everyone.
Top left hand corner, just left of column A, and just above line 1 is a
GLOBAL button, which when clicked on, activates the entire sheet.
You can then unmerge entire sheet, as well as delete all comments.
