I just got a new SG Standard and decided to get some new pickups. Now I've read A LOT of reviews and searches through this board and Harmony Central and was hoping if some people could help me. Everyone seems to have their own opinions and bias' so my heads spinning when I keep looking at them. Right now I can't really decide between the Custom-5/59 and the DiMarzio Air Zone/Air Norton. I'm looking for a nice fat sound that will still sound good clean and have a beefy distortion. I don't want something with a lot of highs but I want it to be able to cut through. I'm looking for that Sabbath tone. I'll be playing a lot of classic rock with some blues and occasional stoner rock. The amp is a Fender DeVille and I use a Rat2 and USA Bigmuff for distortion. I'll probably get a lot of SD suggestions since this is a SD board but I was hoping that i'll get some food advice. Thanks.

Perfect Pitch training
Since my young teen years in the mid 90s, I have bought countless guitar magazines. Almost every one of them have a perfect pitch advert touting the amazing benefits of being able to recognise notes by sound and how it opens up an entire world of possibilities as far as composition / improvisation is concerned.

Need amp for stock strat sounds
Can any of you tell me which amps i should be looking at for a thick and ballsy sound from Stock single coil strats.... I like i good thick rocking sound with lots of bottom end...... My 5150 does not cut it for single coils. seems to only work for humbuckers for me. My JCM 800 comes close... My 65 Deluxe amp is OK for clean tones.... But what amp makes a stock strat sing with a great bottom end? One of my Favourite players uses a new Plexi reissue with American Standard strats.... Maybe i should look at them but what else is there.

Noise gates?
What exactly do these do? My understanding was that they quieted the excess noise generated from having a long chain of pedals, but my friend says he can use one to make his amp feedback less. So what's the deal? What does it actually do?

Can No Longer Get Fulltone Inductors...
If we do any wah mods from this point on,we'll have to use the Dunlop Fasel inductors...This is a shame since the Fulltone inductor was my favorite...The Red Fasel is a decent inductor, but still not as good as the Fulltone... Maybe I'll just not do wah mods anymore quot;CLYDE wah Inductor

AX84 amp designs... anyone used them?
I’m thinking about starting off simply with the AX84 P-1 design… just to get my feet wet. I’ve really been wanting to dive into the world of amplifiers, and since I’m a “hands-on” learner this type of beginner type build might be perfect.
