Hello,
I've got a BC Rich Virgo and I'd like to replace the stock pickups. It's got a humbucker at the bridge and a single-coil at the neck. I like to play death metal and looking for tight bass and clarity/pick articulation for the bridge. Mega output isn't necessary as my amp has tons of distortion already.
For the neck, a good single-coil for clean tones. I like that jangly quot;heavy metalquot; clean tone for song intros, etc.
here are the guitar specs:
Maple bolt-on neck amp; Agathis body (sounds like mahogany to me)
Rosewood fingerboard
Tune-o-matic bridge
thanks
If I were you I'd put a 59 bridge and a vintage strat in the neck (don't remember the ref). Those pickups rock either clean or dirty. And they will balance in output too...
If it were me . .. I'd put a classic stack in the neck. Jangly, clean, but noiseless! No hum! Bridge . . . I'd go with a Screamin' Demon. Cuts, with a hair more output than a 59, but not a crazy amount like a Distortion. It's still better to stick with a pickup thats voiced for high gain, even if you don't necissarily need the output.

But the fact it's that some humbuckers like the 59 works great under high gain... Just remember first EVH album, he used a 59' Gibson bucker. Or think in strat single coils, stack or standart, their tone it's very good for high gain. Many heavy rock bands play with strats cause of that. It isn't my opinion, It's just what I read when they talk about gear.
JB in the bridge
Classic Stack in the neck
I'd go for a Hot Stack in the neck and a Custom inthe bridge. I like PAF style pickup s for clean and high gain work, but to be honest, the Custom is going to be tighter and clearer when driven than a 59.
As far as the Hot Stack goes, it'll still sound like a strat, but will keep up better with the Custom as far as output goes.
Ok... you don't belive . You should check the clips made by Jolly in the tips and clips section. He uses a jazz set.
