Hey guys, a pickup trade that was supposed to happen (my EMG 81/60 for SD JB/Jazz) Isn't quite happening anymore.. instead I would be trading for a JB/'59 set.

So what I would like to know is how does the '59 compare to the Jazz? I'm talking about clarity/definition, output, cleans, and highgain sounds... and anything else you want to throw in. Keep in mind it will be going into my Ibanez SZ, mahogany/maple top, and rosewood fretboard.

OH and will the '59 do jazzy tones as well or better than the Jazz?

Thanks

I think the '59 does warm jazz tones better than the jazz. The jazz used to be my favorite neck pickup but not anymore. Too bright and not enough bass. To me it has no character or personality and is very sterile. It's a very good pickup for dark guitars or in general nonetheless. But it just doesn't have the mojo of a '59. Doesn't do it for me anymore.

I like the '59 better for hard rock, actually all around I like it better.

The 59 is cool, bu tI personally preffer the PG, Jazz and APH in the neck slot. The 59 does a better job of old school jazz and semi-driven blues than the jazz, but for squeaky clean tones, I preffer something with less low end representation.

Change the magnet in the 59 for an alnico II though, and that's one of my all time favorite neck position sounds in a LP-alike.
