Can I use Murphy's oil soap on it, the stuff normally used for wood floors?
Thanks.
That's what I use on all necks that are either unfinished before I treat or retreat them with gunstock oil and wax. If it's a finished neck, I just polish with Jim Dunlop guitar polish.
I´mnot familiar w /the Murphys producht, but these quidelines are generally safe.
Finished maple neck (Standard style Strats Teles for ex.): warm water and a mild detergent work fine, just don´t overdo it and drown the neck.... just dampen the cloth a bit and scrub... standard Guitar polish when done
Oiled maple neck (Jackson/ Charvel and many other superstrats, for ex.): 0000 Steel wool then wax
100% Raw maple neck (Zerb´s favorite): 0000 steel wool
mine has a satin polyurethane finish. It's not very dirty but I'm sure it could use a touch up. The mild detergent will probably be fine maybe better than Murphy's. I don't think that I want it to be oily when I'm done.
Thanks for the help.
On poly you can use friggin napalm to clean it of you want, that kind of finish is real hard to screw up
I use Dunlop 65 guitar polish on the maple neck of my MIM strat. It cleans very well and doesn't appear to do any damage... Is this bad? How come no one else does this? It seems like the obvious thing to do and it seems to work very well.

That's what I use...

Sounds like fun, I may have to try that sometime.
I just wipe it down every now and then with a damp cloth and that seems to be ok.
I use Cillit Bang on my poly, my aluminium pickguard and onmy covered bucker... doesn't do anything
What about Lemon Oil? Is it ok to use that? I never know what to use these days.
On poly yes, I personally don´t like it on Nitro, feels like I´m rubbing thinner into the finish....
for conditioning unfinished fretboards: WONDERFUL stuff

This isn't really for cleaning but more for your neck's health But you only use that on Rosewood or other finish-less necks

Maple doesn't absorb lemon oil like rosewood or ebony does. I think it would leave the fret board feeling oily or greasy and eventually transfer from your hands to your strings. While it probably wouldn't do any harm, I'd save lemon oil for the rosewood or other type of necks...
