I'm getting a 1980 Gibson E/2 in about a month (The Mahogany/Walnut) version. It's used and apparently the previous owner thought it was a good idea to put an X2N at the bridge and an Invader at the neck.
So obviously these have to go as I like to play clean sometimes, and don't really want quot;all out metal madness with high out putquot;.
I'm using a Mesa Boogie Solo 50 Series 1 Head into a Splawn 4x12. It's a very bass heavy setup, I keep the Bass around 3 and it still thumps like no other.
For the bridge, I tend to like very crisp distortion, whether that means I like low output or high output more I don't know. I've heard it come out of an Emg and I've heard it come out of Gibson stock pups. Very crisp and bright are the main two words. My favorite lead tone comes from Travis Stever (Coheed and Cambria), think what you will about the band but to me his lead tone is undeniable. I believe he uses a stock Les Paul Standard. For Rhythm I like it to be crisp (love that word) but still I like a huge thump when I palm mute in Drop D. I
For the neck, where I play a lot of my cleans, I like it to be at that medium where it is bright but still buttery enough so that I don't sound like an Icepick past the 12th fret. I'm alsoa huge fan and Finch's tone on Say Hello to Sunshine is basically what I want to come out of this guitar, they changed guitars tho and I'm not sure if they are still using Emg81's.So tell me what you guys think.

That guitar would have originally has Dirty Fingers Pups. It's too bad the guy changed them...
I would try a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge. Its nice and thick without being boomy and try a low output neck 'bucker like a Seth or Alnico II Pro or Jazz...
