Brightest brand of strings
Partly to annoy Hamerplyer with another poll (hee hee) and partly because I want to fight brightness in my guitar tone, which brand has the brightest sound?

SHR-1 in a Lap Steel Guitar
I just bought a SHR-1 to put in my lap steel because the pickup it came with was not all that great. Upon researching how to wire this thing in, there seems to be several hundred ways to do it. I selected this pickup because I knew it could be wired so that it could act as both a humbucker and a single coil. But now im reading stuff that I dont even know??? What is phasing and series and parallell? I know what split is but, how do I wire it so that I get the most out of my new pickup? Can anyone tell me my options? This is the only pickup I will be using in the guitar. It has one volume pot and one tone pot, but adding pots and/or toggle switches wouldnt be out of the question for me.

Need a bridge pickup for a very light Tele/Esquire
I've got a custom built Tele that I converted into an Esquire. Ever since it was new, the guitar has had a Rio Grande Muy Grande bridge pickup. I have a love/hate relationship with that pickup, leaning towards the hate side.
It doesn't seem to get the Tele sound I'm looking for, it has just a touch too much midrange or something. The sound I'm looking for is wiry yet aggressive.

inexpensive axe
I've had some really nice electrics, mostly Gibsons, which of course run at a premium price. Now I'm looking for a new or used decent quality guitar that I can rig for turbo-afterburner high output metal. Ideally it should run under $400, maybe $500 tops if it's ready to shred, with a whammy, and a humbucker in the bridge. USA made would be nice, but maybe that's hoping for too much. Suggestions ?
