What are people's opinions about which one makes a better guitar neck for heavy metal lead playing. I have one guitar with each and they both have strengths and weaknesses. However, the guitars are so different, Gibson LP and Ibanez RG I don't feel I can really compare them. I'm looking 2 guitars of the same model with maple or mahogony necks. What do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of each?

ascending/descending lead runs.
First off thanks jeffb i do have my agile up at theguitarspecialist.com and should have it back this week...and you are correct he is not cheap ! ok purpose of this thread...im getting back into guitar after years off and am trying to get these old slow fingers to do some leads. i am practicing the maj/min penatonic, blues scale and some modes...here is where i am stuck...i can now play the blues scale and some modes in different positions but i really still have to think ok im in position 3 of 5 now which is a drag...what im looking for is a way to do licks that expand or open up the fretboard, ascending or descending...yet i cant really find any books that have these and sadly...im not good enought to just improvise my own...what would be great is if people could post their fav licks that in either ascending or descending, cover at least say 7 or 8 frets...mostly interested in the blues scale or dorian/mixo/minor/ licks as blues is what im trying to learn...reason i interested in this is a) get the fingers to understand how to navigate the board without having to always think bout the positions and b) i figure that if you learn these types of runs you can always stop in the run and improvise then contunue it down or up and improvise some more...anyway i know its a tall order but thought some of you more experienced players might like to share some of you fav runs amongst yourselves anyway....thanks in advance.

Getting distortion on a Marshall 1959SLP
I wondering how you could get distortion from this amp? I don't know much about amps, but I noticed there was no overdrive switch or gain knob. Right now I'm assuming you get distortion when the volume is turned up higher.

Mouth For War (Demo) Cover
Hey guys, I worked on this a little, and made a demo cover of Mouth for War. This is a demo mainly because of the solo, I need to work on it a little, and I got a little mixed up in the ending riff. Hope you guys like it, enjoy:

Stock Pickups in a Suhr Strat
I am looking at a Suhr Classic (basically looks like a Fender Strat w/3 single coils) and am wondering if the stock pickups are any good. I am thinking in this price range the pickups have got to be OK. Anyone have any thoughts?

Stringing up a JV Strat
I see Scott's method in the Vault. My JV strat has tuners with a hole in the tuner posts, like the tuner post is bored out and the end of the tuner is slotted. I wish I had a pic of it to post, but, I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. Do you guys purely use Scott's method and ignore starting with the string inside the tuner post? Or do you cut off the tag end and tuck it into the hole after the first turn?
