Hi

When I place a telephone number begining with zero into a cell, as soon as I
move away from that cell, the zero at the begining of the telephone number
disapears.

I have tried formatting the cell for text, which does allow the zero to
remain but it also puts a green tag in the top left of the cell. I have also
tried the other formats but I just can't seem to get the zero to stay put.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards

Precede the number with a single quote (apostrophe)

Hi Gary

Thanks for your reply but are you sure that that is necessary. In other
excel spreadsheets that I am sent, the zero in front of the telephone numbers
do not have an apostrophe in front of them. can it not be a matter of
correct formating of the cells??

Regards

Hi,

Try and apply a custom number format to the cell.
Select the cell(s), Format, Cells..
On the Number tab, Select Custom under Category
Set the format to 00000000 (Or however many characters your number is)

You can read up custom number formats in Excel's help.

Hope this is what you were looking for.
