Is there a way to configure Excel so that it doesn't open a new workbook when
I start the application? I prefer the design of my old version of Excel (from
Office 95!) which would open a new worksheet, but get rid of it if you opened
an existing document. With Excel 2003, if I open the application and then an
existing workbook, I have to manually close Book1. Not a big deal in the
grand scheme, but annoying that Microsoft would throw out a perfectly
workable solution to the problem which they had 10 years ago.

This link was really of a great help. Thanks. I've learned something new.
quot;PFullerquot; you can create a shortcut on your Desktop by Right-Click on
Desktop - New - Shortcut. Type the path:
quot;C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXEquot; /e
This is because, you can not add a switch to already exist shortcut of
Microsoft Excel.
quot;PFullerquot; thanks for this kind of good question.

Thanks - that helps.
Comparing the benefits of Windows Installer shortcuts outlined in
support.microsoft.com/kb/290379/ with the cost of losing the ability
to use switches or see where your program is running from, I think I'll pass
and create my own shortcuts as rajkohli suggests.
