Every time I open word or excel, the application asks me to save either book1
or doc1. I click OK to clear the screen (cancel isn't an option). It saves it
and then prompts me again to save book1 or doc1. It continues this loop and I
can't close the application unless I go through the task manager.

Dear Kollin,

It is a macro virus. You can disable the macros by using
Tools-gt;Macros-gt;Security and click on High. Then excel will ask whether to run
the macro or disable. Select not to run.

OR

You can search for quot;Personal.xlsquot; file in you Hard disk and delete it. It
might contain the macro virus.

OR

Install a latest antivirus and scan all files.

With kind regards.

Bye.

It doesn't have to be a macro virus. It could just be a poorly designed macro.

If you close excel and reopen in safe mode:

close excel
windows start button|Run
excel /safe

and test it out, do you have the same problem.

If it works ok, then you may want to do some detective work to find out what the
cause is:

Chip Pearson has some notes on how to diagnose startup errors at:
www.cpearson.com/excel/StartupErrors.htm

And Jan Karel Pieterse has more notes at:
