I just thought to myself, eh I spend hours on the SD, Dimarzios, EMG, KA, BL websites researching about pickups... and yet I don't really know how to read the tone charts!
It seems that the more resistance the more output? Is that because the more coils, the more resistance, the bigger the sound? What does output mean in practical term? How to read all the info on the tone charts aside from the high/mid/low diagrams?

I thought this was interesting. The JB/59 combo has come up for discussion a couple times lately, including here. I was just reading on the SD frontpage that a Grammy was won for Best Metal Performance by Motorhead, with Phil Campbell using a JB and a 59.

Rather than derail the other thread, I figured I'd start a poll.
A number of us seem to be dissatisfied with the quality of gear reviews on HC. I thought I'd put the shoe on the other foot and get an idea of how many of us have contributed meaningful reviews there. Do we expect good reviews to appear out of nowhere or are we actually willing to quot;do our partquot;?

I've read a couple times that a lot of the classic guitar players (Hendrix/SRV) did not use special pickups. They just used the stock Fender pickups wound in the 6.0-6.6k region. This made me curious, if it worked for them why wouldn't it work for me? So with that being said, what types of pickups (duncans or anything) are comparable to those vintage pickups?
