just finished the pups for a Keith Richards tele,
put a shorter JB A5-in AntiQity Humbucker neck the shorter magnet has less inductance making a brighter clear tone -- also the Tele has 250k volume and a 500k tone pot helping ballance the 250k vs. 500k single/humbucker load debate

7 string pickups
Hey everybody, I'm new here. Hopefully you guys will be able to help me out with a bit of a problem I'm having here. I've got myself and ESP H-207 seven stringer that's begging for an upgrade from the stock duncan-designed pu's. It's got an ash body, rosewood fretboard, and a tune-o-matic bridge on it. The kinda sound I'm looking for from the bridge slot is a really open sound that has a bottom end similar to that of an EMG 85. (and I'm not cutting up the thing to waste my money on EMG's, I'm not a fan of active pickup compression) I really like what I hear from the duncan custom in the bridge of my Les Paul, it's nice and tight and really defined; I just want a bottom end that sounds more like alnico 5. As for the neck position I'm pretty set on a dimarzio Air Norton because of John Petrucci, but I've got this nagging feeling about what a 59 would sound like in there. Thanks for reading everyone, I hope to hear some input that'll help me out.

High VS Low output p/ups amp; tube amps
Well we all know how tube amps sound best cranked, which is how I use them. So I'm wondering, with respect to high output/distortion pickups versus lower output: would a higher output pickup actually drive the tubes harder, or is it just a perceived volume increase? On another note, do you think a lower output pickup may work better comparatively because to get at the same volume as a high output pickup, you'd need to turn the amp up louder, thus driving the tubes harder?

FINALLY got some pics of my guitar in progress...
Well, after a lot of prying, I got some pics of the body and neck I'm having cut for my next guitar assembly. It's an Ibanez JS-style axe, body and neck both made of black limba, w/ an ebony fretboard. These shots look to be before the finish was applied and the neck was fretted, so they're pretty old (as I've been told I should expect the completed parts to arrive this week).

glassy pickups
i am currently building a tele, it will have the nashville 3 pick up configuration. i want at least one pick up to have a very glassy tone like in some of the byrds stuff, almost a pedal steel tone. as for the bridge i want a country twang reminiscent of carl perkins. any help would be greatly appreciated

New Stuff Rocks! My Les Paul Junior Arrived!
Woot! My Gibson Les Paul Junior is here! It's the Vintage Sunburst Finish model. It's a 2001 model, which I believe means that it has a nitro finish. This guitar is super light and resonant, and an absolute dream to play! Surprisingly good intonation across the board. This thing loves to get thick and nasty. 70s ZZ Top licks are just begging to be played. It's perfect for that thick, yet chimy Billy Gibbons thing. Between the Reverend Slingshot Custom and this new Les Paul, I think I have everything I need guitar wise. Pics are coming!

What's wrong??? (Wiring Question)
I replaced the volume pot on my strat today. I just removed everything and re-soldered it right back were it was. Now that everything is back together I find that when I touch the pole-pieces on the neck single-coil it hums like mad! If I touch the bridge and ground it out the hum is quieter but still there. All the other pickups are fine.
I've resoldered and inspected everything and all my connections seem fine. Any ideas?

Anybody use/familiar with the Mesa Boogie V-twin Preamp?
I'm still doing research on a good preamp for me. I'm into rock/metal most of the time but i want something with a little versatility. For the most part I want a clear-clean and a thick heavy distortion with high-high's and low-feel it in your stomach-palm muting-low's (Thrice/Bigwig). I'm not one for really mid/high, harsh, gritty, chimey, bright sounding dirty tones.
