Woot! My Gibson Les Paul Junior is here! It's the Vintage Sunburst Finish model. It's a 2001 model, which I believe means that it has a nitro finish. This guitar is super light and resonant, and an absolute dream to play! Surprisingly good intonation across the board. This thing loves to get thick and nasty. 70s ZZ Top licks are just begging to be played. It's perfect for that thick, yet chimy Billy Gibbons thing. Between the Reverend Slingshot Custom and this new Les Paul, I think I have everything I need guitar wise. Pics are coming!
Love those guitars!
Yeah, I have one of those too. It's a supercool guitar.
Awesome, I love Jr's good luck with it.
congrats!!! Jr's kick a whole lot of ass!!! I just got my first real Paul last week, I went to pick it up and while I waited I played a historic 60 single cut special...loved it...in fact one of those or a good JR are next on the muct have Gibson list!!!
Wow, just gave it a good hour of rock. Holy crap, what a sound. I'm in love. The tuning was a little iffy though. That could be the result of the guitar climatizing to the wet, ****ty weather up here, or it could be a problem with the stock Gibson tuners. I guess I'll wait and see if the problem corrects itself. Awesome axe though.
Yeah. I'm in love with the LP Custom right now. I have never played a Jr. What makes them different from normal LPs?

Juniors also have a wraparound tailpiece and the top is flat (not just lacking maple). I can't really stand the feel of regular Les Pauls. The curved top makes things impossible for me. I also don't like the feel of the 50s neck styles. It's got a little too much girth for me. The 1960 slim taper on the Junior fits my hand like a glove.
Oh, also to anybody who is checking out this thread, Les Paul Juniors are an absolute steal! They can be had for under $600 used, and you can still get them brand new from MF for $650!
Congrats...LP JR are the bomb. P90s make you wonder why you need any other kind of pickup.
Have you tried open G yet? Fun, fun, fun.
Only problems I'm having with the guitar now are a few setup issues. I might have to try getting an adjustable wraparound bridge. That should solve any intonation issues.
Congrats! I got one of the MF Juniors not long ago. I bought one when MF had them on sale for $599. I feel bad for my other guitars. Since she came home they don't get much play. I love everything about that guitar. I don't want to change a thing. I'm a p90 addict!
Didya put new strings on it?
Thats' the first thing I do. My FB and Faded Std, wouldn't stay in tune for crap ..put on a fresh set of Brite Wires, rough intonated them, adjusted the neck/TOM and they've been rock solid ever since.
Congrats, that'd be my first choice in a P90 guitar....
Yeah, for some reason it didn't occur to me that the guy might not have 10s on it. I picked it up today and realized that the strings on there were 9s. I slapped a set of 10s on, and adjusted the neck. It is playing, intonating and staying in tune wonderfully now. I'm super happy with this guitar. The only other thing I might do is micromesh the finish on the back of the neck to a more satin feel instead of the glossy paint finish that it's at right now.
PICS!
I love juniors, nothing you dont need.
Man, I want one of those too.....same SB finish! Is yours a 1 or 2 pickup model? I like traditional cherry or black too, but those newer SB finishes look even better IMO.
On those tailpieces, the intonation has to be spot on....as with every guitar. When you adjust the outter strings for intonation, try and get the needle on your tuner to be dead center on all the notes past the 10th fret. Little tiny tweaks till the intonation is 100%. If you do that, the tuning problems will go away.
Where are the pics?!
