ive got a wide selection these days...ranging from my 82 strat to my $89 SX strat(..which since i put that Custom P90 in...shines) however..i lack a dean of anysort, and was wondering if anyone knew how the Dean Explorer amp; V copies hold up to say...well i own a Korina epi Exeplorer( which is my #1 , and has some vintage Bill Lawerence pups in it). So if any of you have some opinions on the quality of the Deans, please let me know.
I can't speak for the current model Deans, but I own a 1980 Dean Z Standard, which is Explorer shaped. It's impeccably made, plays marvelously and sounds very nice. The newer versions of these older models do seem to be well crafted also.
I own and have played more than a few import Dean's as well ... and for imports I think they have some extreme quality ... judging other import lines I think the quality of the import Deans is a lot higher
But that's all personal bias
Dean's import line is killer. The Dean Chafin Del Sol resonates like nobody's business. The tone is great, the frets are perfect (no cutting or pain when traveling around the fretboard). The binding and everything is almost perfect. Pro hardware like Grover tuners is included. I would still replace the pots and switch if you get one, as those are the weakest links. Some CTS pots and a Switchcraft switch and jack will put you in business. Overall great guitars. I think the Dean may be the one guitar I've had the longest out of them all.
