Well a couple of days ago I discovered the YouTube website and needless to say, Vai and Satriani were my first tries.
Vai... well ok... I have his latest album, that guy is a genius but I've never seen a video of him doing mindless shredding, weirdly enough.
Satriani... I saw a video of him with HAIR!!! What a surprise That guy makes better faces than a drummer when playing live, he's got a very emotional style (I find) and he too doesn't just do fast runs. I really need to get me some of his stuff.
And for today... Paul Gilbert.
My my... I think he's my favorite so far. While I don't mind passion and weird scales, mindless shredding sometimes is enough to make me happy. And that guy to me is simply the best out there. He's got the chops, he's got the melodies, he seems to be a pretty down to Earth nice guys, does a column every month for guitar guitar... Here's a video I found of him which totally awed me...

Ah well I can't help and bring that one in the mix too from : localhost/that one

from : localhost/is probably my favourite quot;shredderquot; guitar player.
He's inventive and funny and has a lot of soul and blues in his playing...just a lot faster!
I also really like the fact he picks nearly all his notes. I really prefer picking to legato runs...to much Al Di Meola when I was younger, I guess
lol...hes funny....and fast...

Gilbert is awesome! If you haven't already got it, pick up Superheros by Racer X.
Jason Becker is another guy you should probably check out. Any track off Perpetual Burn will blow your mind, and he was only 17 when he recorded it afaik
Here's a live solo from when he was in Cacophony from : localhost/first bit is just him yo-yoing and doing some legato, but wait for the sweeps to come in... I wish I could sweep that well! I'm gonna get there eventually I hope
Here's a guy that posts at the Racer X board. He's got some serious chops!
from : localhost/uploaded his entire album for free (I'm not entirely sure why though tbh, it's good stuff!). Download track three - Of Angels and Demons.
I love Jason Becker. I have the song Perpetual Burn and a video of Gilbert playing some sweeps he made (though I forgot the name of the song) that I need to work on.
I'm also a fan of John 5 since I got Vertigo 3 weeks ago.
I shall try and find Mr Big or Racer X and Cacophony CDs sometimes...
That wasn't Gilbert you saw playing those arps Originally Posted by RacerX FAQQ:I downloaded a video off the internet of somebody playing [insert Racer X song name] but you can#8217;t see his face #8230; is it Paul?
A:No. It is a Japanese guitar player named Take. He has made numerous videos of himself playing various Paul Gilbert solos. You can find them here from : localhost/racer-x-web.hp.infoseek.co.jp/sound.html
You'll have the Serrana arps video. Take does some pretty cool vids.. There's a few Racer X ones, some Becker, and a few other recordings too
